Also I am looking for a good fan speed control, and maybe a desktop gadget for it anyone have suggestions?

    thanks

my current set up is vista firewall&defender plus Avast. AVG did not do well on my system

vista power management is doing a very good job w/o relying on 3rd party app, give it a shot before fiddling with 3rd party app

vista gadget (sidebar) can be expanded to fit ur imagination, why not try it out first?

    cheers ...

    u won't -

i only recommend that u leave vista to handle ur power/performance management, thus having indirect effect to ur fan

    cheers ...

I have found Ad-Aware SE works fine in Vista. I use Avast! antivirus alongside it.

I am using AVG (the registered version, not the free one) without problem. The latest release of Webroot is Vista compatable and works very well on my Vista machine.

May I suggest that you go the the vendors site to Vista for compatable versions and/or patches before you install any XP versions of software.
