I can't figure out why, but my start menu is totally empty of pinned programs, and recently opened ones! When I switch to classic view, they appear, but back to vista and it's just all white space.

And the start menu's giving me other troubles too. I right click 'computer', select show on desktop, and there's nothing there. But in classic view it shows up. Driving me insane, I was hoping this clean install would go smoothly. Please help

Restore to the last best known configuration. You must have installed something recently!!!

I think it may have something to do with disabling UAC and getting all these stupid 'no authorization' popups, and all my files ended up everywhere. I am doing another clean install, what should I do with UAC though? Getting the popups for the most trivial of tasks may drive me insane too.

As soon as Windows finishes installing, disable UAC, BEFORE installing anything or doing anything. Then, all your files will only go to one place only.
