Hey all. I just ordered a new lappy and with it, I got the Home Premium addition. I can get the buisness addition from my school for free. I looked up the differences and noticed that they each have things that I desire. Is there anyway to combine the two to get all the features from both? If not is one overall better then the other? Thanks.

Vista Ultimate has everything from all versions, though it costs more.

If you don't need Media Center, Vista Business is probably better than Home Premium. There's not too much difference though, so either way, I wouldn't bother.

And if you want the additional games in Hoem Premium, you can easily enable the features in Business (I got Chess this way).

I believe Business has some networking features that Ultimate hasn't... personally I use Vista Business, no problems at all :) And I'm a unoversity student.

Nah.. vista ultimate can do everything vista business can do networking wise.
Vista ultimate is really a combination of windows home premium's media center and windows vista business's networking capabilities.

I also use vista business in that I cannot stand media center. :)

Same here - my mother has Home Premium - my laptop came with Business too :)

But I'm sure ther is something business has that Ultimate hasn't - I saw a long table comparing features well over 2 years ago - and someone mentioned it here too.

Anyway - has the OP decided? If you can get Vista Business for free - you can alwys buy Ultimate or Windows 7 later on.

One thing Business has that Ultimate does not is a longer life-cycle (which may, or may not, matter to the OP); i.e., Business will get support from Microsoft for a lot longer than Ultimate will (because Ultimate is still a consumer version).

My new lappy is going to come installed with Home. I just downloaded business for free and will have to burn the iso. Using I.Like.pie's post as a reference, I like the "All in one media center functionality", "Easy make DVDs" and "create hd movies" features that home has. As for business, I like the "protect against hardware failure" and the "longer life cycle" that Shyster is refering to. If I had to choose one I would say Home is better for my needs but I feel that if I have both then I should be able to use all the features from both.

I am fairly certain Ultimate contains EVERYTHING including all functionality from home and business versions.

Yeah I tend to agree with this. After all there is a reason why it is called ultimate :)
