There is an interesting test published in German comparing XP vs. Vista performance on two Core 2 Duo systems:

    http://www.zdnet.de/enterprise/os/vista/tests-beratung/0,39035744,39152526,00.htm

You need only few German words to get the message (see below),
the benchmarks pictures should be selfexplanatory.

    Dictionary:
    weiter (next page)
page 3: Booting and awaiking from the standby,
    page 4: Battery life time,
    page 5: performance in games,
    page 6: performance in applications,

In short: Vista wins in booting and awaiking times, looses in battery times and performance in games (significantly), wins in applications (except multimedia/multitaskingt).

Google translate should help to read it in more details.

Vista wins in nothing I care about :) all i care about is power consumption, games, and multimedia (and i guess multitasking is a bonus but insignificant).

I'm just wondering if all the gaming issues will get a little better when the new version of DX9 comes out. (The "DX10" for DX9 hardware.)

Yeah, actually, if you look close, there are tests ran for Photoshop CS2.
