In XP I just right clicked the file and choose open with if the extension was unknown or I wanted a different program to open it.
How do I get this option in Vista? There are some extensions I don't always want opened by the same program depending on the file.

If its unknown, click open, it automatically shows Open With..
If its known and you want it to open in another program, the Open With should be right under Open. -
Mine only says Scan with AVG under Open.
-
Remove that POS antivirus then
-
Very weird.. I have 'open with' above 'share'.

Does anyone else have this problem with AVG?
I'm running Vista Ultimate x64 -
Uninstalled AVG and installed Avast. I have the same problem.

It's not an AVG problem. I see the Open With option and have AVG installed.
However I do not have open with for ALL file types. .BAT files for example do not show it.

Can you check a .doc file for me? That is what I am trying to use this on right now.

If the program has a known association, open with will be on the context menu.
If it does not, you select open, then you will get open with.
Recommended programs probably shows the scan with antivirus, however, if you click the plus all the way to the right of "other programs" it will list more options. Hit browse if you want to browse for a program that's not listed. -

Try highlighting the item first. If you just click the general area without highlighting it by clicking it ONCE first, then sometimes it won't show all the options. Try it.
