My vista laptop sometimes wakes from sleep to try to renew its network address from the dhcp server (router). How can I make my network connection shut down while the laptop is in sleep mode and automatically connect when it is woke up from sleep.
BTW in device manager I do have the option to allow this device to turn off to safe power, and the option to allow this device to wake the PC is not checked so I don't really understand why it is waking the PC to renew the network address. Also here is a snip from the event viewer on this.

Go to far right and click on the network icon then click on connect or disconnect. Right click you local network and go to properties. Now select the Connection tab and check the box that reads " Connect automatically when this network is in range"

Thanks but that would still not fix the problem since my laptop is not disconnectring in the first place when it is put to sleep.

Try the suggestion if you are talking about a wireless connection.
