    Hey guys,

Curious if anyone knows how to do virtual burning in Vista x64. Either through a program, or perhaps through a virtual machine? I have a bunch of music that my wife and I share between our laptops, and it's a pain in the butt to recertify the DRM on each computer each time we listen to the same song. So, I was thinking of doing a virutal burn and rip so they can be plain 'ole MP3s.

    Thanks!

P.S. It would be sweet if the "Virtual CD" wasn't limited to 700MB like a CD disk (I don't know if this is an issue or not)

P.P.S. I am running WIndows XP Virtually, so if you can do something with the virtual machine, I know you can load a CD virtually, but can you create one virtually?

You can do a copy, you can rip any protected CD with Exact Audio Copy. You can play with Alcohol 120% and...what are you trying to do exactly?
MagicISO can create images (ISO for instance). You can them rip then with EAC.

Well, my wife has a bunch of music on her laptop that was ripped onto her computer with the WMP DRM on it. INstead of ripping all of that music onto mine, I just copied the files. So when I play them, I have to validate each file, which unvalidates her computer for that song. And we she plays it, vice versa...pretty annoying.

Just looking for an easy way to get around it.

OK, so use MagicISO to create an ISO. Mount it and then rip the files with Exact Audio Copy.

A google search for "virtual cd burner" turns up some promising hits. Many of them are pay software. Re-ripping might be a cheaper/easier option. Software like itunes makes it easy, and you can do it while you work on other things.

I'm not sure magicISO can do this. He's not talking about making an ISO with the files themselves, he's talking about using the media player to "burn a CD" which will convert the music into cda/wav format.

yeah, I wonder if in a Virtual MAchine running XP you could "burn" a virtual CD that is huge, like 10GB of .wav files, and then rip the puppy?

    I don't mind it being a two-step process, if I don't have to pay.

In the end, if I can't find a free option, I'll probably just put up with the annoyance.

    You can do it.
