To uninstall and go back to IE7, Programs and Features, View Installed Updates on the left bar, and Uninstall there.

So since we have to install IE8 (or just get annoyed by the update icon on the tray constantly) how can we simply install it then change the default to IE7? There has to be a simple location to do this....Since we cant uninstall the update as it will find it and ask to install it again -
-
So can someone PLEASE tell me what I am doing wrong here..
I download the IE8 Blocker Toolkit and run the EXE. It asks where to extract the files to..I extract them to a new folder on the desktop..then in this folder there is
.jpg file
.adm file
.html file
.cmd file
I ASSUME that the .cmd file is what i want...but what the hell do I do with it? If you double click it is flashes a DOS prompt screen then nothing???
From Microsoft website:
"This toolkit has no expiration date and can be configured either by running the registry file" -
A HA......I chose dont install and it will stay as an optional update and wont remind me...gonna try it
"To proceed with the installation, decide on whether or not youd like to participate in our Customer Improvement Program and click Install. If you choose Ask me later, WU will re-offer IE8 to you during the next update scan. If you choose Dont Install, WU will not offer IE8 to you again, and IE8 will appear as an optional item on Windows Update." -

two options there to choose / not choose..choice or ignorance -
It's kind of a silly thing, and yes I went thru my IE8 angst until I figured this out. Now I use IE8 pretty much exclusively. -

I've read a few EULAs, and no, I'm not a "lawer".

Update:
After downloading IE8 via AU. When it asks to install you choose "dont install" and it stays in your update hictory as "cancelled"
BAM it will never ask again ; ) -
I have IE8 on both my XP and Windows 7 partitions. Seems fast and stable.

I've now tried IE8. It's certainly improved, but I don't see how the toolbar is any more intuitive than Firefox's, and I hate how the history sidebar works. Besides, FF has so many wicked add-ons. My browser allegiance remains the same.

IE8 works flawlessly for me, though Chrome is still my main browser.
-
started getting a bit used to / hooked on FF extensions.. not all of them, but yea.a few are really good.. Wonder if they r there for IE8 or not.. chrome would be losing my faith soon if the extension magic stays on me for longer..

What extensions are you taking about. Name? Purpose/Function?
Most of the addons are available to IE as well. E.g flashblock, noscript, adblock..etc all have alternatives for IE. They work just as well too. -

I downloaded IE 8 to a couple of my computers. Created major problems with my company's Microsoft Outlook Web Access program. Typing emails was incredibly difficult as the letters would not show up for about 10 seconds after I typed them.
Obviously, there is a compatibility problem. I will let others work out the kinks before I go back to IE 8.
Uninstalled it two days later and reinstalled IE 7. -

but anyways, ie8 is quite decent. decent enough to make me not feel bad when i use it. still, i only use it on foreign systems mostly. it has 0 gain over firefox on my systems, and much losses instead. but one can use it to browse the web, is reasonably save, so it's all fine. -

why ever you would. makes it look at stupid and non-logical as ie. which means: the worst mod ever. except in a company where your boss is not allowed to notice that you don't run ie..
the gui on ie is BAD. just that. why are the buttons there on the right? why not on the left like on any other program (including other browsers)? it makes no sence. espencially none to get forced to this configuration.
anyways, have fun with your perverted castrated ie-styled firefox.. -

IE 8 is great

For me.. unless someone force me to use FF,I'll never touch FF in the current situation. -
I've had it since it was released in RC on my XP laptop, and I got it as soon as it was on Windows Update for my Vista machine. It's been great, although still behind Opera in terms of speed (and security, as there are almost no exploits of Opera). I still don't see why it takes time to "connect" to a blank tab though...

You can reduce the "connecting" time by changing the default tab page to a blank page.
