My partner recently bought a packard bell laptop with windows vista. It has been having random events where the icons and the taskbar dissapear and wont come back. The only way to get to programs is through the taskl manager.

I'm guessing explorer is crashing and then fauiling to reinitialise. Has anyone had this problem and could anyone help sort it out?

Also how does one access the event logger in vista?

I have never heard of that, it sounds like you are right, explorer.exe crashing then failure, but the event viewer is at : Control Panel\System and Maintenance\Administrative Tools\Event Viewer : Hope this helps.

I have no idea either, but keep in mind that almost anything is accessible by searching in the start menu. For instance, if you search for 'event viewer', it'll instantly come up as a search result.

If only everything in life worked this way... :D

Sounds like a hidden trojan to me. Only thing that's weird is most trojans won't allow you to access task manager.

Antispyware didn't install properly, I'll get her to run some anti-spyware stuff.
