I only have a 60GB hard disk because I don't store much data on my notebook.

I just did a clean install of Vista x64 and am having some serious disk space issues.

FolderSizes (application) shows that the windows folder is 18GB and the "system volume information" folder is 10GB. This seems way too huge. This is half my damn drive!

I was sitting at only 4GB free disk space *with virtually no personal files* so I turned off system restore and ran disk cleanup but it only gained me about 5GB. I'm currently sitting at 10GB free disk space without system restore on :(

Can anyone offer some advice as to why Vista is taking up so much room?!

Pff...system restore is overrated in my opinion. Do a backup when you feel the need to and restore it when needed.
Try a drive cleanup with CCleaner.

and by the way, System restore is useless,

    Format, install windows

    install drivers and windows update

    configure system to ur like

    do not install any software

create an image of ur c:\ partition using Acronis True Image

now u can install ur programs, when anything goes wrong in the future, you can just use the image you created with Acronis True Image to restore back ur windows within minutes!!
