you need to get the s-ata driver for your s-ata device and slipstream it into an xp cd (or submit it by floppy(!!)).

my suggestion: stay with vista. takes a while to get used to it, but it works great actually (and will by a big chance run much more stable on your system, which simply isn't made for xp anymore.. => no real good driver support for xp)

Have you put SP1 on it. This may help if not.

If you do go back to XP, there may be another way other than installing the sata drivers. Go into the bios and change the sata mode from AHCI to IDE. This should then detect the HDD.

Not sure why you're having problems with getting games to run in Vista. I have no problem with games--even stuff that's 10 years old runs just fine, usually with little or no effort.

Did you get the latest drivers for your laptop? Sounds more like driver issues than Vista issues...very common misconception with people to blame Vista than operator error.

Well, if you have Vista installed, go to the manufactures website and obtain the drivers. It is most likily a driver issue you are experiencing.

No. If you havn't got Service Pack 1 installed, give this a try, it fixed a whole host of issues and since it's release, Vista has become a lot more stable.

When I mentioned the IDE settings, this was if you wanted to reinstall XP. You said you it won't install. In the bios there is an option to change the sata mode from AHCI to IDE, do this and you should be able to install XP. If this doesn't work then you would need to slipstream some sata drrivers onto your installation disk.
