I am having this problem for last 2 days. Through my internet connection i am able to download torrent files but am not able to open any websites (not even google in FF or IE). I am able to browse websotes from other laptops connected to the same Wifi.

I have tried repairing my Vista OS. I have also reinstalled my OS. the problem was resolved for 5-6 days but it came back again a couple of days back.

Please tell me any other details i can provide regarding my problem.

I have disabled all firewalls. I didnt have an external firewall, was using vista firewall itself

Plus, I run a virus scan at 5am daily

You have a DNS Server problem...

If your internet provider has given you DNS Server addresses, use them:
    - right-click on internet icon -> open network center
    - click on status
    - click on TCP/IP v4 and then properties
    - Enter your IP address and DNS Servers (! your IP address may be given to you by a router, if so, just give yourself an IP address in the range of your current address (ie if you have 192.168.5 now, just enter 192.168.53 or something)
    - that should do it

If not forget everything i said and reboot you router.

Try to run the Network Setup Wizard again, a lot of times this simple procedure will solve the problem.

Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> Internet Options -> Connections

I am able to connect instant messengers like yahoo and gtALK

but whenever i open an explorer or ff window it takes half an hour to open google, if it connects by chance. I am getting aROUND 60kbps on bittorent downloads though

Maybe its one of your programs causing it?

    Try clearing the DNS cache:

    Start -> Run -> cmd -> ipconfig /flushdns

Also, did you try running the Network Setup Wizard again? I didn't see it on your list.

    :)

EDIT: By the way, is this problem only occurs when the BT client is running?

What torrent app were you using ?

Java hungry torrent apps are renowned for this kind of issue, i stopped using azues, i now use bitspirit and my problem like yours have gone, i also use nod 32 as my anti virus......

    Hope this helps

Instead of uninstalling NOD32 (which IMO, is the best antivirus), you could have excluded utorrent from content filtering and it would have fixed the problem.

    Just follow this tree
Advanced setup > antivirus and antispyware > Web access protection > HTTP > Web browsers

There will be a list of programs. Tick utorrent (cross) and problem solved.

It may have installed an NDIS filter driver which might not be properly configured....I had this problem with McAfee and Norton 360 2.0....

Try out another antivirus, and I would advise you to go for Kaspersky, since it has valid boxed keys available on ebay for >$20, for a year.
