I have vista on my new HDX and I want to install XP Professional.
I have a boot disk for XP, when I try to boot it doesn't work and gives me the lovely BSOD.

I searched around and found out that there are conflict issues between vista and xp, so I need to format my hard drive before I can install xp. So I am stuck trying to find out how to format my hard drive from bootup. I do not have a working OS on this drive because I had switched it out from my old computer. So I need something like a drive formatting boot disk.

I googled it, but I have not come up with anything.

    What I need:
    1. I am fairly sure the problem with installing xp is the conflict with Vista. If you think otherwise please let me know.
    2. I have tried accessing the command prompt, but I cant boot up any OS.
    3. A boot disk where I can format my hard drive from (if such a thing exists)

Any further help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

I am also using 64 bit editions as well, just to point it out.
Sorry about the misspelling in the title.

Does it start loading the XP setup then BSOD? If so, you're missing the SATA drivers for your laptop.

It "loads" windows, then gives me the bsod. It gave me an option to update SATA drivers, but I didn't think much of it.
Since it was the only option it gave me at boot up, it was the first thing I could have thought was the problem. Where would I find the SATA drivers for this computer?

Another problem I am going to have is overall hardware drivers for my laptop.
On the HP website, there are only 2 drivers available for XP for the HDX 18t, how is this going to effect the computer overall?

    Ok.
    Here is progress so far:
I need to be able to install XP.
XP won't install because of my SATA drivers.
What I am supposed to be able to do is disable "native SATA drivers" in my bios then reboot XP.

The HDX doesn't have the option to disable native drivers, so basically it looks like im screwed. Or, I need to find my SATA drivers on the internet, and I have absolutely no clue where to start working.

You should ask for help on the HP/Compaq board.

HP doesn't need to have the drivers. You need them from Intel.

They should be called Intel Matrix Storage Drivers, or something similar.

    Ok thanks.
I am too close to giving up on XP.
But problems with vista have accumulated immensely over the past 2 days since I posted this. I can not bare it any more I need to get this figured out.
I did talk to an HP rep, and he couldn't help me much. He kept suggesting I stick with vista.

    Edit:
I am searching intel's website, but I don't really know what to look for.
    Any help would be appreciated.
And I still would like to find a program where I can format my hard drive from boot up.

How about we try fixing those vista problems in the meantime?
