I've purchased the Windows 7 upgrade for my Vostro 1700 (Vista Home Premium). When I conduct the upgrade, what is likely to happen to the Recovery (D:/) drive that came installed with the computer, and what will likely happen to the Dell Media Direct functionality? My computer runs so wonderfully right now that I don't want to mess with these if I don't have to, and hope I have the option of simply installing the new OS on the current C:/ drive (where Vista Home Premium resides), and retain Media Direct, etc. Unless, of course, any of you advise otherwise...
Thanks for any help. First time EVER participating in ANY forum...

lol, no problem. When you recieve your upgrade DVD, and install it, you'll have a choice of what partition you want to install W7. The Recovery partition will be clearly marked "Recovery" so just choose the other partition to reformat and install W7 onto. Make sure you backup your documents/apps first.

Before you perform the upgrade, it would be wise to contact Dell and talk to the tech support team. They will know (or at least should know) exactly what you need to do to avoid destroying the restore and/or media direct partition, if that is possible.

Thanks, folks! Having seen how some forum members (not necessarily this one) treat each other (esp. newbies) I was both excited and nervous about replies. Your comments are very helpful. One more thing, though: I assume the Dell Vostro "Recovery" partition is designed to recover the Vista Home Premium system that came with my computer. Will the Windows 7 upgrade somehow reconfigure or contribute to that partition so that the partition will have some reasonable, meaningful function for recovery to Windows 7? I read somewhere else that Windows 7 creates some sort of 200 MB recovery function. Maybe the installation will recognize the existing Dell recovery partition and modify it? In my one call to Dell, I got nowhere... (I'll keep trying).
