Hey everyone,
Well today has gone dreadful, I went to attach my 22 inch LG W2234S monitor to my machine over vga which normally runs at 1680x1050 but today things went bonkers.
When attempting to correct, the resolution on the monitor itself defaulted to standard 1024x7** (forgot the rest) so i had to adjust it, but the problem is its not recognising it at its native nor is it listing modes for it.
So i thought, must be the driver, so i try downgrading a few things here and there, but it seems my ATI driver isn't recieving any EDID input (i think its EDID, But its the thing that tells the machine what the monitors capable of etc,) and its just not having it.
So at this point i just think that somethings gone quite wrong, so i perform a quick back up of my work (didn't have too much anyway) and completely re-installed windows.
That hasn't fixed a thing either :/ and my res is sat on 1600x1200 (which isnt my res either way.)
Anyone dealt with this issue? this is really agrovating as everything was running perfect before, and today i plug it in and bam, problem problem problem.
Im running on a HD4850 Mobility.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Been wrestling with it all night, no joy, even tried modded inf's along with monitor display inf, it seems that even the devices in the dev manager dont really associate themself with the monitor, i dont even think its reading the laptop display correctly.
Will try OEM Vista disks when i get in.
Apparently alot of Nvidia older gpu users experience this, but i've rarely seen ATI errors.
Is there some EDID chip inside of the laptop itself?
W7 And generic non pnp display bad issue.
