Hey guys, just a quick question.
With RC1's release being not too far away, I was wondering if i installed W7 beta now, would I be able to "upgrade" once RC1 comes out? Or would I have to reformat over beta to freshly install RC1?

Not really sure on this but, usually, you would have to do a fresh install of W7 RC.

Yes you can upgrade, people have been doing it from 7000 to 7022 and 7048.

Thats good news... but how long does the upgrade process typically take? I'd very much not need to spend 4 hours reloading all my software on my netbook, with it's slow hard-drive.

Depends on the hardware I guess. I did a Vista>Win7 upgrade and it only took an hour or so on my old Acer 9302.

And with an upgrade you won't have to reinstall any software, drivers or anything as it all stays intact.

Really? How do u do this? Do you have to download a copy of the W7 beta 7048 .iso, and then burn it onto a disk and then install? or is there another way?

    Thanx.

I didn't even know 7022 and 7048 were out, I still have 7000 and I'm having some problems so it would be great to update. How do you do it? I don't find anything on windows update.

Download .iso and burn disk, put on flash drive, or mount it.

7022 has been out for a bit which is what I'm using. I see most comparisons on review sites are between 7000 and 7048 but I wish I could find 22 vs 48.

That's pretty good stuff. Think Microsoft will include anything major from now until it gets to gold-status? I think the stuff they have in it now is very well done.

Is it true, that a "update" isn't the best way? I heard some say that a new "clean" installation would be more then a bit better?

    Greetings

Yes a clean install is better because an update could give you some unexpected issues, but most people on Neowin have upgraded with no problems.

Didn't want to open new topic:here's my question.

I don't want to "illegally" downlaod a copy of W7, even using MS valid key. Will they offer a download of RC1 for public again?

Just wondering, those ppl who legally got beta, how do they upgrade? Torrents or somekind of legal download?

It is almost certain that Microsoft will release an RC1 candidate for the public. I think I read here somewhere that the RC1 would be available on April 10th ( see here).

Microsoft has ended public beta testing of Windows 7. The 10 keys available are all still active and will activate perfectly fine but you can no longer "legally" download the Windows 7 beta.

I do not know if Microsoft will offer the RC up for public download. They usually do but with the wide 7000 beta testing I'm not so sure.
