At what stage should you install the intel matrix storage manager drivers etc.?

after win 7 is installed just do it?

Or do you need to do it during the installation of the O.S.?

    Thanks.

You can install it after. From what people have said, you have to install the drivers manually, as Windows Update does not find any for them.

I would image a driver disk that comes with a system would work as well too right?

I'm sure you could find it online to download after you install. It's not really a big deal. I do not have them installed, and have not found it to impact my performance, as I see no real advantage in installing them right now.

But yes, if you have a driver disk, then you should have no problem with hardware issues. But regardless, newer drivers available are downloaded automatically for most devices.

If you have a RAID hard disk array, you can monitor it's status using matrix storage manager. You can install the SATA driver during installation of the OS or update later too.

I had this same problem with my ASUS G1S. I tried to figure out whether I need the Intel Matrix Storage Manager. The Intel Matrix Storage Manager is not a SATA driver. It is a software solution for RAID that works really well and is optimized for the Intel chipset. You only need it if you have a RAID configuration.

On the other hand, it does provide Native Command Queuing that provides advantages in some cases at the cost of disadvantages in others. From my own tests, the Intel Matrix Storage Manager did me no good.

The intel matrix storage manager also has the SATA AHCI controller driver. You can use the floppy disk config utiltity from the intel site to extract the driver.

What chipset do you have? I can give you the link to download the recent Win 7 SATA driver.

I dont know I have the system in my signature below.
    Does that help?

Do I need the SATA AHCI Controller driver? Is that on the driver DISK sager gives you?? At what point do I install that - during installation of OS or after? does it matter?

I remember when I had a dell, I had to install some sort of Hard Drive driver during re-install of the OS or everything was absurdly slow... same situation here or not?? How do I install it? thanks. and again is it on the DRIVER/Utilities disk that sager gives you?

Open device manager and expand System devices. You will see something like "Mobile intel 965 PM/GM", which is the chipset in your system.

The SATA (intel matrix storage manager will do) driver can be installed anytime. You don't need to update the chipset driver.
