    Hi All,

I'm looking to buy a laptop and have the option of buying with Windows 7 ot Vista with a free upgrade.

Is there any difference between buying a laptop with W7 installed and upgrading one from Vista?

Sounds stupid but it feels as though an upgrade isn't as good as an initial install??

    Ta!!

With the upgrade, your factory re-install discs or partition will be for whatever the prior operating system is. The upgrade disc should allow you to do a clean install however which many people prefer vs. the factory install.

With the W7 preload, your reinstall discs or partition will be W7 most likely, potentially saving a step if you reinstall. You may not be able to do a clean install if the re-install discs/partition don't allow for it.

Is one better than the other? Depends on your preferences.
