Thanks chesieofdarock. I never said that 7 was running perfectly for everyone, I said that it was running perfectly for me.

It is the few that are having the problems who seem to be generalizing that the OS is not near ready.

He said, " IT WORKS. Plain and simple".

I can say, " I have not had any stability problems with Vista 64, yet 7 does not support many of my system features and software.

The few? Look, I'm not running some outdated non-mainstream system. The fact that 7 was supposed to support Vista drivers, but does not support some fundemental features of my system is why I say it is not ready for prime time. Look at the buglist thread in this forum. There are some pretty basic things that do not seem to be working well for many.

Don't get me wrong, I wan't to jump on the 7 bandwagon. As I said in my original post there are many things I like about it, it shows promise, and it does seem to run smoother than Vista, but only as far as what it does support on my system at the moment. It may slow down significantly when everything is up and running - I hope not. 7 does not support everything that Vista does yet but I expect/hope it will when it is out of Beta, else we may see the same reputation emerge that Vista suffered.

I understand what you're saying and I'm not trying to flame, I apoligize if I am. What I'm seeing on these forums are perhaps 5 or so users who are having major issues, and they are insisting that it has no value over Vista.

I'll be honest, I didn't expect 7 to be 100% compatible with everything. I expected compatibility that is on par with what you are getting. The system works and all essential drivers install, but other more computer specific functions to not be supported.

The good thing is that it is very likely that 7 will be released during this generation of laptops. So your HDX will get full 7 support, as will my E6400, etc.

Thanks for the good debate though. lol.

Yeah I have to say I'm not exactly overwhelmed by it.

I still have the same issues that I have in Vista when playing games such as Race07, Oblivion and Crysis.

This beta doesn't offer anything in terms of a performance boost or a decrease in performance problems (Race07 stutters and I can't run it in a res of 1440x900 on max settings like I can in XP).

I think the main revenue M$ will make from this is from those who buy new computers with a pre-installed OS.

I certainly won't be shelling out £250+ on this, I don't use Vista a lot, I game in XP and I very rarely use Vista so why would I want Win 7?

It does seem slightly more responsive though but it's just a reskin of Vista with a few tweaks that could just as easily be done as a service pack.

Just my $0.02 on the OP.

I wish I could say the same but I've had only headaches with Vista on my U6. I drank the Kool Aid and I waited W7 to come out. The specs and ads made me think, oh wow, I can finally get rid of this piece of trash Vista and go to W7. It will be like the XP days, no compatibility issues, things will work, life will be cool. I will be able to install my print server, etc.

W7 x64 on my laptop has huge problems. Problems I've never had with Vista and trust me I've had my share of Vista fun...  .

Granted, its beta, I wasn't expecting much from the stability point but driver and apps wise, I expected 100% Vista compatibility.
