i am using AVG free 7.5 and it is pretty gud for me upto now, does n't slow ur system and works pretty gud, get a spyware along with it,and i do not know about other free antivirus
-
i use avast antivirus, its free, pretty good. most ppl will say that free ones arent good, but i think they do their job unless you actually go looking for viruses. im pretty happy with it, to get it just google "avast antivirus" and then click on the link
-
They are good if all you are gonna do is mild surfing, checking email, etc.
If you do stuff like torrents, you'll need something like nod32. -
I would check with your ISP also. Like verizon gives you mcafee or ca if you sign up with verizon yahoo or verizon msn.
-
I always recommend Avast. Works great on XP, Vista & Ubuntu(Linux).
-
I am using avast right now but I really like AVG. I may switch back, but I just haven't found the time to do it yet. Unless you really think your computer is in danger of getting infected I wouldn't bother with a pay anti-virus.

I've been using Avast for a while now, and havent had any virus attacks or anything. AVG is also good.

I'm currently using torrents and P2P downloads such as Shareaza and I'm doing just fine with Avast!
Never got a virus. -
From what I've read, Avast and Antivir seem to be more highly regarded than AVG. I currently use Avast and am happy with it. The free version seems to have a pretty complete feature set, and the resource usage is reasonable.
Beware that if you use ZoneAlarm, you might not like Antivir. It uses the IP stack to communicate with the real-time shield, so the ZoneAlarm icon in the system tray shows activity even when there is no external Internet traffic. I found this to be annoying, so I will not use Antivir as long as they stick with that architecture. -
My free trial for avg anti-virus just ran out...its 40 bucks for 2 years...any suggestions on something else free?
-
download the fre version of avg
-
oops...i still have the avg anti-virus, I meant the avg anti-spyware... I chose the wrong thread title to throw this on. So....any suggestions on the spyware problem?
-
I was using Avast and just switched to AVG, Avast works great and I haven't been using AVG long enough(1 day), but I would have to believe it is with all the recommondations, I use spyware terminator and haven't had any problems.
-
I've used AVG for over a year now and haven't had any problems that I know of. It's pretty unobtrusive, updates itself automatically, and I've got it set to scan my system every night. It's caught a few viruses, but only after the files had been downloaded onto my system, not during the downloading process.

Norton is the best AV.
-
I used AVG for a while. I thought it wasn't very good. picked up a lot of fake viruses and had a bunch of false warnings.
I forgot what it's called, but I use a free one on linux. I can have it check NTFS systems for viruses. -
-
heck no, i've used kaspersky and nod32 before and they were both crap! they let virus install. ived tested them out. kaspersky and nod32 are **** but kaspersky is better than nod32. i installed a virus when i have nod32. it didnt say anything. but with kaspersky it warn me. but didnt block everything. -
I've been using AVG for more than a year now and its still working alright
.

AVG and Avast are about equal. They are both popular, fairly accurate (not overwhelmingly so) and really only preference determines which of these two are better. Avira is less supported and less known, however testing has shown that it's accuracy rivals even some of the better professional products. I would recommend simply trying each of them yourself and choosing which one you like. -
I've used AVG for a few months now and my laptop and desktop are ok so far.
-
I've used AVG on my desktop for at least three years, and it's done a great job. I've had no problems with it.
-
NOD32: Is the best I've used for paid. Kaspersky is nice as well.
Avast: Is the best I've used for free. AVG missed one too many viri to let it be my AV.

I use Avira AV, never any problem. Requires very little over head.
Norton requires all your resources, kills a pc. Will never use them again. Had problem with a def file they released. Never did acknowledge their error. Not a company I would trust. -
i dont use norton but i use symantec anitivirus. it doesnt lagg me at all. doesnt use that much resource either. NOD and KASP still suck.

to be honest I do not use any AV anymore. I know the sites I use, open all email in text only mode, never look at attachments. With a solid firewall I feel OK as long as do not venture too far from the mailstream.
I also tightened up the settings for the INTERNET ZONE...
Oh yeah, I block sites using HOSTS file and check for updates weekly on that. If you jave no clue what the heck a HOSTS file is look here:
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
Makes life pretty easy really...oh, I block almost every metrics tracking site I encounter if they are not already in the HOSTS file. Haven;t has a virus or spyware problem in years of doing it this way. And yeah, I know I might be lucky...but it sure is nice not to have one more pos bit of bloatware running. -

Download Google Pack and receive 6 months free Norton 2005 anti-virus prescription. This will include Live Update where you will receive free anti-virus updates. More great softwares are included with the Google Pack.

I use AVG. I have the Norton freebie from Yahoo but do not like it. Seems slow and bloated.
WHICH free antivirus?
