The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    I'm considering upgrading to Windows 8 Pro via this Amazon deal:

    Amazon.com: Microsoft Windows 8 Pro: Software

    I currently have a retail license of Vista Business, but I'm also pretty sure that I want to build a new PC within the next few months. If I upgrade this one now, will the Windows 8 license transfer like the retail Vista license would have if not upgraded?

    The short answer is YES. You can't move an OEM license as it's stays with the hardware.
