    OS: Vista

When I boot my computer, I get "WMI Provider host has stopped working" immediately and I can't connect through wire internet -- I live in rez and luckily I have access to wireless from my room. On top of that, when I try to connect to any network via "Connect to a network", it sometimes hangs at connecting. It even mocks me by saying, "hmm, it's taking more time than usual." No ****, Skynet. T_T When I press cancel, it goes "Not Responding" (Infamous Windows phrase, I think). And when I try to shut down, it doesn't shut down at all. It just hangs at "shutting down". I left the room just recently for 30 mins to see if it shut down. But it apparently went back to my desktop.

I did recently update my Windows, so I'm thinking that's the problem.

    Here's my hijackthis log:

    Thanks!

Since it happend after a windows update, try a system restore.

Also why do you have 2 anti-virus programs installed(I see processes for AVG and Trend Mircro)?

Just to be extra-super-careful. xD I have enough ram to support them, so it's not a problem for me.

System restore eh? I'll try that!

edit: Crap. I didn't backup my drive.... no system restore =/

I too had this problem and i found it to be a compatibility issue between either the Yahoo Tool bar and instant messenger, Google desktop/tool bar or valves latest and greatest creation Steam. After deleting these programs from my laptop i found the the problem was solved and that no further updates were necessary. Also an email was sent to Microsoft notifying them of the compatibility issue between one or and combinations of the programs and any one or more of the 9 latest updates that were auto installed with in the past two days.

Hopefully this will be taken care of by either Microsoft or the publishers. You can try doing the same if you have either of these programs on your computer and it should clear it up for you.
