When I turn my laptop on and open an audio file in the WMP 11 library, it takes about 30 seconds to play. After that, other audio files will play immediately. I tried disabling enhancements in the sound device settings, but that did nothing. Anyone know how to fix this problem? It's quite annoying.

Does this happen to all audio file types, or just one in particular (ie: wmv, mp3, etc)?

Have you recently updated your sound card drivers (has Windows "updated" the drivers)? There have been cases when Windows updates the sound card drivers, causing delays in opening MP3 files. If that's the case, go to your laptop manufacturer website and install the latest driver from them.

Yeah we get it, you are a Windows 7 fanatic like you were a Vista fanatic for a day and xp fanatic before that.. But suggestions like that isnt good enough, since the OS isnt even out.

OP: Im not really certain what causes this slow down but i can really recommend you Winamp for an alternative.. its instant...

otherwise, i read in a topic somewhere that people were experiencing this problem and it got solved by going to device manager, rightclicking the sound driver and selecting uninstall, and afterwards letting windows install its own genetic one... Just give it a shot, wont hurt.
