i can't find a control panel to do the settings on windows media player 11 that came with vista. i want to set it to not to be the default player for video and audio files but i can't seem to find it... the settings menu was out when you first time used the media player but then you can't set it anymore??

In Vista, you can find these options directly from the start menu.

Open the start menu and click on "default programs" - it's the option right below "control panel". Then choose "set your default programs." You'll be able to set your default programs for any type of files you like.

thanks but all the check boxes are greyed out. i can't uncheck the extension file type for media player to not play it...

or is there a way to reinstall media player 11 on vista? because i went to download media player 11 but when installing it, it says that i already have the latest version so it won't let me install over it..

now my problem is that my media player 11 has a conflict or something when i installed k-lite codec pack. whenever i click on an AVI file even though i set the default player to be the media player classic (that came with the codec pack), windows media player 11 launches instead and it won't play... :(
