Any word on whether WMP 12 will be released for XP and/or _Vista at any point? If so, is there any word on support for the Windows Media Player Toolbar (which did not appear in Windows 7)? Finally, if it will be released for XP/_Vista, is there any word on whether it will install/uninstall like a regular application (or service pack), or will require System Restore to uninstall (a la WMP 11)?

In the past MS has always offered WMP to their previous OS such as XP. I hope it doesn't change this time around. Anyway I plan on running W7 regardless but it sux for those who will still be using Vista.

I'm fine with WMP 11 on Vista at the moment. Any major differences between 11 & 12?

WMP12 is significantly better then ANY windows media player including the classic one.
You have the same great features and usability as version 11, but way way way more responsive. The player is actually 2 parts. The first a ultra simple UI that opens virtually instantly when you double click on a video/music file, and you have the full program which you can switch to, or run from the start menu.
It's really looks like it was optimized for low power computers like the rest of Win7.

I use WMP12 64-bit with Shark007 64-bit codec pack (you have to enable 64-bit WMP12 from the codec pack panel), or have re-link everything yourself to the 64-bit version found in "Program Files" and not "Program Files (x86)". I suggest using the panel, as it's a click a mouse.

You should try it.. MPC has way less features, and startup about the same time, and form my experience doesn't play correctly some formats.

Okay, I was rather getting that picture given the lack of any news about WMP 12 lately. Let us know if you hear anything final!

You can use windows media player 12 on windows xp and vista. That's what I did.

You just have to mod a few things here and there and it'll work flawlessly on xp and vista.

Running a Vista program on Win7 is understandable, as some got discontinues or replaced with something that might not properly fit the needs of one.

But, when you start running Vista/Win7 software on XP. I mean just get the freaking OS, and stop using the junk you use now (XP).

I am using windows 7 on my laptop. I'm usign vista ultimate on my desktop computer. I'm using windows xp on the virtual machines on my desktop computer. I used the virtual machine to test if WMP12 is going to work on non- W7 OS. After I made sure it works, I installed it on my windows vista ultimate OS.

No it doesn't, on both counts.

MPC-HC is also so much more configurable it's not even funny.
