    Gidday guys

Hoping someone can help me here. I upgraded my Sony SZ from Vista to Windows 7, but WMP 12 will not play DVDs. It loads, I get a flash of the FBI warning, then it goes to the Media Player window with the alternatives Play DVD and Return to library. I've checked settings, searched the net, uninstalled, then re-installed WMP, nothing seems to work.
The same DVDs played fine with Vista, VLC plays them, but I'm one of these people that likes everything working as it should. I'm starting to wonder if it's just the Sony laptop not really liking Windows 7, and if I want everything working, I'll have to go back to Vista as the machine was set up for.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    Thanks and regards to all.

You need to download a codec to play DVD's with WMP. Many recommend Shark007

For Vista and Windows 7, you do not need a codec to play a regular DVD (bought from walmart, kmart, etc.) you can buy from the store. If the DVD is actually showing you all the FBI stuff, then it is playing but it seems like the OS builtin decoder is crashing. Did you perchance install any 3rd party codecs? Does the problem only occur with that one DVD?

    Thanks for the replies.
The problem occurs with any DVD, they are store bought, no issues playing any of them with Vista. I think I did install a 3rd party codec pack in an effort to get WMP working, no joy.
Funny thing though, it came good yesterday, I shut the machine down, turned it back an hour later, the problem was back. I also found that it's not playing music from the library (hadn't tried it before). Click on a song title, it scrolls down through that and the next 4 songs, puts a red X next to them and says it can't play them. The error message for that reckons something is wrong with the audio device, but everything is normal.
It's all got me buggered, as VLC plays DVDs and music files fine. I just want WMP12 to work properly.........................

Looks like I found my problem. I uninstalled SRS audio sandbox, and that seems to have got everything working properly. It's a shame, as the software worked well in Vista. Anyone know if the new version (HAL) works with Windows 7?

    Thanks guys
