For some reason, Windows Media Player for Vista only plays in black and white. I just started doing this and I don't know why. I've downloaded and tried a few different codec packs and none seem to fix this problem. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?

    Thanks.

What type of video is it? What are the codecs required to run it?

I'm trying ot figure out what codecs the video file needs, and then i'll ask him which codec packs he has installed. That way i can clear up any and all problems he's having.

I mean, its anything I play through WMP. .avi files, imbedded/streaming online videos. It happens for every video type.

Also, I can't find any place to uninstall WMP for Vista. I downloaded the Essentials Codec Pack and it had been working fin for months.

I'm pretty sure the essentials pack installs media player classic. Try to play the video using it.

Well, I've tried using both Media Player Classic and VLC player, and neither of them work. They will play the sound, but the screen is just black.

Does anyone know how to fix WMP? I don't even know how to uninstall it because it isn't on the add/remove programs list.

Well, my laptop can't play DVDs since I have Vista Business.

This problem has not been resolved. Does anyone have any advice?

Download Gspot, which will tell you what codec is needed for a clip and if you have the required codec or if there is a codec problem.

    http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

It's most likely a codec conflict problem but it could also be a problem with your video card drivers, what video card do you have?

I've checked the codecs. It says that I have all the necessary codecs.

I think that Windows Media Player is basically broken. When I try any other media play (Media Player Class, VLC Player) the screen is just black but the sound plays.

may be that some codecs had a change in a switch...

have you tried cleaning the system of codecs and then install e.g. klite mega codec pack?

I've deleted all the codecs multiple times (if I did it properly that is) and tried the klite pack, the media essintials pack, and the cccp pack.

K-lite is bad. Very bad. No more k-lite. But that CCCP and the essentials pack don't work...this is quite a mystery....

Nope. I have done absolutely nothing to my system that I know of. I literally just started happening.
