I loved the speed of Chrome but can't use it due to the fact that it doesn't support WYIWYG in older vBulletin 3 forums and I visit such forums a lot and it is vital for me to be able to copy/paste an entire post or article with its images, links, formatting, etc.

anyway, in Chrome, if I click on a website on my bookmarks bar, the page loads almost instantly but in Firefox, it takes about a second or two until the page starts loading then it loads fast.

I always thought this was how the Firefox Engine works but today, I was reading a thread about what is the best Adblocker and noticed how some people say that AdBlock Plus makes your internet slower due to its large URL list which most of the sites there are old or irrelevant.

I have used ABP for many years and is the first thing I install after installing Firefox...but based on that thread, I decided to try this

    Adguard AdBlocker FTW

holy cow! the moment I uninstalled ABP and installed it, it's like I got a new internet connection upgrade! all sites open instantly!

give it a try it's worth it, all ads are blocked successfully as well as I tested it

Looks good but NoScript addon for FF works also. No lag in opening web pages noticed.

I thought NoScript was for blocking scripts not ads isn't that comparing two different things?

Now the only thing I have doubt in, whether it also blocks tracking attempts from websites. I emailed support and am awaiting a response if it does that's awesome, I can get rid of my Disconnect Addon as well

I actually went ahead and installed the FREE app which works without the need for installing an addon across all browsers :)

it does feel a tad snappier but i cant really tell as my fibre has dropped 15mbs today.
also firefox as been a pain since the previous update a few months ago as its been freezeing about twice a day for a few seconds. then it would go back to normal.
actually its not happened today yet and im still using 31.0
will monitor it for a few days with this new add blocker.
ive still got abp loaded but turned off so it shouldnt conflict.

I picked the Windows program instead, since I use IE and Opera as well, although I already use TPL for them.

yes gotta love installing one thing that does the job and it does it seamlessly and with less slowdown than ABP since ABP's filters are massive and filled with old useless filters

After testing it for a day, this one's a definite keeper.

First, I thought there is some catch or nags to upgrade to the paid version but nope! other than parental controls which are available in the premium version (which I don't carea bout) and premium support, this one does all that I need!

2 addons gone from my FF, ABP + Disconnect bye bye :)

I have to admit that it messes up sites in a way that I couldn't imagine.

Video | The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon | NBC didn't work at all.

I wanted to buy a ticket at sj.se, but it didn't work, so I added an exception.

Then I had to pay for the ticket at paynova.com, but that didn't work either, and adding an exception didn't make any difference, so I had to disable Adguard.

The worst thing is, that's all I've done in web browsers since my last post...
I will probably uninstall it as I don't feel like adding exceptions for lots of sites that I visit.

with the huge benefit AdGuard provides and its speed, I don't think this is a show stopped. I just tried that site and when adding an exception by clicking on the bottom right icon of AdGuard, you can choose to add the exception to that page only or to the entire site which means you do it once for the sites you visit and be done with it. But it's your system, your call

I'll take the super speed and multi browser support personally :)

Yeah, I have no trouble adding an exception for a site now and then, but three out of three sites made me hesitant.

Maybe I just stick with the FX addon.

No custom subscription meaning no foreign language site can be blocked for now.
Not sure how adguard works, but using host file would probably as snappy.

This is what I use no custom software just edit the PC hosts file and that will block more then any ad block or blocker program will ever do. Just do it once and your done....this is the site I use to edit the PC hosts...file....

Using a Hosts File To Make The Internet Not Suck (as much)

Edit that to your PC hosts file and your done. No messy software to worry about or keep updating. Just redo your PC hosts file and your done. Also make sure to make the PC hosts file "Read Only" that add a further line of protection to prevent redirects to write to your PC. This will speed up the browser and kill those sudden pops and redirects and should you click on those links it come up as a blank page thus further protecting your system.

no hosts file for me it slows down my system to a crawl and I don't want to disable the DNS Client Service to avoid that slowdown.

Used to use MVPS hosts file before and it works well but the negative impact due to the hosts file being larger than 100KB is not acceptable for me

hmm..odd I didn't have slowdowns using the PC hosts file....if you don't want to disable the DNS client just follow their instructions to tell the PC hosts file to bypass it what their command "#".

And since you mentioned you used MVPS hosts file there is also another part which the author address DNS client if you happen to see on their site.

Or I could just install the extension, copy in my 5 custom filter rules and be on my way. Set it and forget it. I have better things to do with my time than to futz around with a hosts file on two operating systems.

Back to the topic at hand, I have this extension installed with Firefox at work and Chrome at home. It works pretty well. Surfing is a bit snappier. The biggest difference is when it comes to blocking ads before videos. The process is much faster with Adguard than ABP. This one is a keeper as far as I'm concerned.

I'd like to try the actual software, and it appears they're working on a port for OS X. If and when it comes out, if it is able to block ad requests from Flash in Safari (no adblocker extension for the browser is capable of this), I will buy it in a heartbeat. I prefer Safari to any other OS X browser, but the inability to block Flash ads is what keeps me from using it full time.

You don't need to buy it if you don't need parental controls.

I contacted them today regarding one small issue. If I load page in Pale Moon via the IETAB extension, the ads are not blocked. They replied within 1 hours and the fix was done on the fly via an internal update to the English definitions list!

I went ahead and removed my AdBlockPlus and AdBlock extensions from Chrome and installed AdGuard for Windows. I can honestly say loading of webpages does feel snappier than before. I even switched to IE11 due to the recent Chrome 37 update which screwed up the font resolution and made Chrome unusable on my 3 22" 1080p monitors. With AdGuard, IE11 flys! Thanks Ferries23.

Okay so I'm switching over to Firefox! IE11 has a constant green screen bug after a while when I want to play videos and Google Chrome text is extremely tiny right now so I'm left with no choice! Argh!!! :(

I too always thought Firefox was just too slow but the other two have bugs that makes me want to break stuff with anger.

You do know that in IE internet options the the browse history preferences you can change it so it won't clear the history cache but clear only password that is where you need to make the changes so your cookies and history and cache remains.

Yes but the constant green screen bug on video players is annoying as the only temporary fix I found was to reset the IE11 causing you to lose your previously opened tabs and windows. What I really liked about chrome is how you can restore or reopen multiple tabbed windows say after restarting your PC whereas IE11 you can't. Well not in the same sense. It just doesn't have the same end-result some times and you lose all those tabbed windows and have to go find each webpage in the history one by one. I'm hoping Firefox is more like chrome when it comes to reopening closed tabbed windows as that saves my progress in time.

is that the default behavior? Because I certainly haven't touched the settings and I wouldn't think that would be the normal behavior to clear cookies on exit

I never noticed such a feature in Firefox other than the usual Shift + Tab to open the last closed tab. Maybe there is I just don't know

    Nevermind, here it is........very easy:

Then somebody or something else must have changed the settings. Default behavior is to keep the cookies, obviously, just like with any other browser on the planet.

Where are you ABP lockups coming from? I use the tried and true PC hosts edit file and don't need to have adblockers to do the work the hosts file does it for me already.

ABP causes small freezes on page loading, then load it after a second. After that it works flawless, but not the "first load" of any page on the current session. Adguard doesn't do it. Loads perfectly well without any problem and does a very good job at hiding ads,if not,I can set it manually.

I used MVPS Hosts file, everything was fine until I tried logging in to the Samsung Support website to register my SSD.......after entering all my data and serial number.....if I hit continue....nothing ever happens.......tried IE, tried Firefox, Tried Pale Moon.....I initially thought it was an issue with their site........then I tried removing the MVPS Hosts file and just relying on Adguard and guess what........the page loaded instantly.......

I know this is just one instant........but anything......and I mean anything that comes in the way of my workflow gets deleted eternally.......

Nearly the whole Samsung page was blocked by ABP, have to stop running it on that site. And lots of other sites had issues with ABP. With Adguard? So far so good.

off: Wish I could use any other browser as seamless as Chrome and without the Chrome Disease
