EDIT:
i ordered my vista beta kit from MS cause i wanted both 32 and 64 editions
costed me $10.60
i am number 308 in the ordering list
they do have limited number to who all can join in -
Man, I DL'ed the .ISO from the provided link with Getright to the MY Dcuments folder, and after an hour and half, it got to 100%, only to disappear completely from the folder after the temp file vanished...I've searched multiple times, to no avail....I'll give it another go
-
The best way to d/l it is to use a download manager. Get the download manager from download.com (CNet). I kept getting dropped too because the servers are impacted, but after using a download manager I got the complete file as fast as my connection would hand it to me.
Here's my dilemma though...I have the iso (which is 3.3gb), a DVD drive, but no DVD-RW drive.... Does anyone know if it'll work over multiple cds, and if so how to do this...heh. I wish I could just begin the installation in windows on a second harddrive, but I don't want to run it in a virtual environment.
Any ideas? -
Whoa, why is the 32bit file so small?
-
I have tried beta 2 of Vista and was quite impressed so far. The interface seemed appealing and smooth running and very user friendly. Beta 2 lacks wireless networking though, so if you are planning to use it as your primary OS, don't! Even 3rd party connection programs won't install because it is not compatable. Hopefully the next beta will include wireless connectivity.
-
Lost Cause, I was using GetRight as my DL manager...Yes I got dropped once, but Getright did achieve 100% completion...I have NO clue what became of the file, and so, I'm simply trying again...
As for your dilemma, I doubt it would install over multiple cd's, because you'd have to extract the ISO and separate..It'd be a mess....The best thing to do would be to download something like Daemon Tools and create a virtual drive that you can then launch the ISO from, and install onto your partition as needed...If you need any more help, I'll be here..Just wasting time at work. -
Great links, got them downloaded, but where the hell do you get the key? I clicked on the link on the other site saying to go "here" to get them, but I see them nowhere...
-
I got my key from m$. Just google windows vista beta 2 and follow the ms link...You have to register with a passport to get the key, however.
-
I can't get the download to work either. The link for the MS approved dl manager is hyper busy. The link to use your own gets to 721 in IE7, and neither works in Firefox...they say access denied. BLAST
-
can an integrated video work for vista? cause i dont have any type of good video card in my desktop
-
An intergrated card will run vista fine, it just will not run the aero glass interface.
-
newer integrated cards will. like with my laptop....its ati chip is integrated...a 200m
-
-
I DLed it with free download manager. Split into 6 pieces it was running at about 400K/s. Was done in a matter of a few hours.
I plan to spend tomorrow night playing around with it. -
cool....report back to use on how it went qwester.
-
Still trying to get the download started also...

-

It's working with Getright! Thanks all! It's humming along at 750K. I'm going to give this a shot before I reformat in a couple days with XP.

I heard that the software is only good for 15 days, can anyone confirm that?
-
It's good until June of 2007...according to the MS website.
-
hey guys
do i have to partition my microsoft windows media center to dual boot? -
I am not 100% sure it won't work, but it is NOT a good idea to even try it. The second OS could mess up the first.
-
any one know a free partition programs that are pretty good?
-
Report on my vista install:
1- Installation takes quite some time compared to XP. Install size 7.5GB
2- With a P4-M 3.2GHz HT, 1GB RAM, ATI 9700M 128MB, and a 7K60 HDD it runs pretty well. Even with best appearance selected.
3- Don't worry if you install it to another partition and still have XP on the first. Vista automatically recognizes the previous version, and each time you boot you are given the option to go into either.
PROBLEMS:
Not Atheros wireless drivers, so no internet for me in Vista. I have to dig around to see if I can find some.
No sound card drivers. Sigmetel chip.
My CPU seems to be heating up more than it does in XP. Fans are louder, I couldn't get mobmeter to run in Vista to get an actual reading.
Edit: Scratch that. I got the network card running. XP drivers worked... typing this in IE7 in VISTA ... **** does IE suck
Edit2: 2 crashes in one hour. One to a black screen and another to the famous BSOD ... YES it's still there rejoice. Since I am sure I set a good record of crashes per hour for now, I am now back to XP. I wanted to listen to some music, and although Vista dled drivers for my sound card from the update site it didn't work, no idea why, didn't look much into it. So I am back to XP to listen to music
Vista makes you appreciate XP that much more ... OMG what have I said -
Same thing b/w 2000 and xp. 2000 could basically run on any machine, and xp was a hog compared to it. Most comps right now aren't ready, but they will be. Not gonna get vista until I buy a computer and it comes with it for free.
-
I downloaded it through the Firefox Download Manager and it worked fine. Downloaded it directly to my Desktop, then used ImgBurn to put it on a DVD, and everything worked fine. I haven't installed it yet, because I need to install a larger HDD (this 30 gig thing ain't cutting it anymore).
As far as having it work on your computer, anyone's computer should be fine. Here you can d/l the Vista Upgrade Advisor will tell you exactly what you need to get Vista running, including drivers that you'll need. You can d/l it here: Vista
Anyways, as soon as I get a new HDD I'll install it and see how it goes. It won't be pretty with just 512 MB of RAM and a 32 MB GPU, but it'll be good to tell other owners of old notebooks how it runs. -
Installed it and works great. Really smooth. Install is slow but worth it.
-
Where can I find a program to make a new partition for this install. Preferably cheap. I want to use this program to do a few other things too. I've searched around the forum, but found nothing conclusive.
I've got the ISO burned to a DVD, and am ready to install. Tomorrow's the big day! -
Partition magic does it, but it's not free. I am sure there is something free out there that does it ... there always is.
I'll try and see if I can find something -
A quick search came up with these, check them out. I am a bit too sleepy to get what they exactly do and how
http://visopsys.org/partlogic/
http://www.ranish.com/part/
http://zeleps.com/
Let me know if any of them does the trick, for future reference -
i heard there was alot of problems when u partition it..but that was heard...so...prove them wrong
-
If anyone is having issues dual booting and cannot recognize the original OS, install a partition program on Vista such as PartitionMagic and make sure the original partition is not set to 'Hidden'.
Just a quick reminder. A lot of people have made this mistake.
-
I have dual booted and works fine. Only bug I have found so far, is that in Vista, it puts C: as its drive but should be D:, and when I am back in XP, the C: is its main drive and Vista is set to D:. Don't know what to make of it.

I tried Vista Beta 2 today and must say its some good work by Microsoft. Being a beta I noticed quiet a few flaws and some unresponsiveness. I liked how they copied OS X's wallpaper menu style but didnt copy the way os x can change wallpapers - I would have loved if Windows could do that.
They did quiet a number on minseweeper to its quiet slick now. My NVIDIA was recognized as 64mb at installation and it all looked to work fine even without my video drivers - but I installed them anyways.
More from me as I check new things in it
I got no problem with dual booting my windows, worked fine with PartitionMagic, just made a 10GB NTFS partition, installed Vista and I can dual-boot automatically. -
ok...i have nothing to lose....i got an external 200gb hdd....i am not one for partitioning(i have partition magic)
Is it safe for me to install it as my primary OS on my new Averatec 2150(MSI s270)?
EDIT
if i do install...which way whould i go
32 or 64 bit? -
-
and btw quester
when i tried dling zelep, it really screwed by computer
whenever i minimize a task, it makes a wierd beeping noise -
I have both versions downloaded.
I have 32-bit burned onto a DVD-R
I have 64-bit burned onto a DVD-RW
32-bit autoruns perfectly.
64-bit won't run properly even if I try to access the CD in My Computer
Neither will load upon boot but I think that's a BIOS setting so that's beside the point.
I'm going to try burning 64-bit (4.01 GB) on to a DVD-R, do you think that might be the problem? I've tried it on 2 seperate DVD-RW's and the same thing both times, even trying it on 2 different computers. I wanted to see if anyone else had this problem. I just wanted to try saving a DVD-R as my supply is getting a tad low, along w/ my finances. -
dont know if that'd help..
i think i'll go for the 64 bit first
Wanna try Windows vista?
