my 32-bit vista disc has no boot support from dos. Could this be the reason installation dies off after the first reboot, in a vista beta 2 upgrade off xp? is there something wrong with my burn?

I've got it partitioned and running succesfully. Wireless and wired networking works. I can't seem to get glass enabled though. I click on "enable transparent glass effect" but nothing happens. I have the right driver for my video card installed, so I'm not sure whats wrong.

In any case, it works and it's nice. Some very intuitive navigation, but some of it seems overly complex. It's almost like they are confusing people by trying too hard to help them understand. And that just annoys people like me.

I got my 32-bit DVD installed fine upon boot, not through Windows. I kept getting a runtime error when trying it with XP loaded. Anyways, it's up and running and looks really good...a few hitches here and there but otherwise, very impressive. I like the inclusion of Media Center.

I ended up getting Aero to work after uninstalling my gfx card and hunting (for hours) online for a Vista nvidia mobile driver. I finally found one that would work and had to manually install it. But it's working now hooray!!

So far I haven't tried bluetooth, but that device installed "correctly" so I haven't messed with it.

Everything with both partitions is still functioning well in day 2.

I don't have bluetooth installed, so can't help there.
It should have boot support. It could be your burn, have you tried burning another one?

Geepus, what a RAM hog this beast is! I only have 1gig, and the poor HD is thrashing away using the swap file just using Firefox! My ATI x1400 with vista drivers runs Glass beautifully, smooth as buttah.
And it sure is pretty, if rather Mac-like ;) , and seems much more stable than I expected (suppose it had to be for a public beta).
The permissions system for security is really annoying though. Too intrusive.

This is the bit that scares me, seems like requiring more than 1GB of RAM JUST to run the OS is a complete farce, yes it may look pretty, but you'll need 4GB of RAM to do anything beyond look at the screen and say "ohh ahh pretty".

Bleh... and I thought XP was a RAM Hog.

Beta guys...I'm sure the RAM footprint will be less by the time it comes out. It's the growing trend though, sucks you need that much RAM but hey, I guess that's what's gonna happen.

Watch me be eating crow when Vista is finalized. *sigh*

Everyone was complaining that XP was a resource hog after switching from 98 now Vista is the same thing.

I suppose people will just get used to it.

Well about Vista, my audio (except headphone and mic port), wireless, ethernet and geforce drivers worked automatically.

Btw, Im typing on vista now :D

If you don't want it to hog RAM, turn off the eye candy. It will still use more than XP, but the software does more than XP too. It won't be a big deal when it's finally released.

Is throttling (speedstep) working for you guys automatically?

I had to install RM clock utility to get it to work for my P4-M. I am guessing it might a processor driver problem

I'm sure that would work fine. DT will open the ISO, and the program can install through the Windows interface.

I would recommend using a partition management program to create a separate partition for Vista. I don't think it's wise to use this OS as a default...especially on a notebook.

i am a full fledged M$ beta tester so later on i will install this as my main OS
i agree with ttupa...partition it with atleast 20gb and see how you like it...if you like it and have no issues with it....if you want...install it as your Primary OS...

It could work fine, but I've heard about battery life hits when used on a mobile computer. Otherwise it might work well, provided you can find and implement all compatible drivers.

well...my averatec gets a weak 1:30 to 2:00(it is an msi s270-1013 with a 4 cell battery instead of the standard 8 cell)
Vista beta 2 downs my battery life to a wopping 1:15 to 1:45....in other words....noticable but not huge...i wonder what the other ppl are doing to get such a low bat. life
might it be the core duo doing it? -Nope

    ~BUMP~ and an EDIT:
It isnt the duo core doing it...

    simply put....its the graphics chip...
all the laptops that dedicated memory and GPUs will get crappy battery life using vista
ones with the ati xpress 200m, intel 950, as well as other vista-ready intergrated chips wont see that bad of a change in battery life

Has anyone had success getting BLUETOOTH to work?
Have an ASUS v6j notebook, and it has a BT-183 Bluetooth 2.0.
Everytime windows tries to install the drivers off my manufactures disk, it says windows encountered a proble minstalling the driver software for your device. A service installation section in this INF is invalid.

You'll need a Vista driver for your bluetooth to work properly. The manufacturer's drivers probably arent supported. Do a google search and see if you can find one.

I ran into that same issue on my V6Va. Real drag having to connect to the CAT5 cable all the time. Kind of takes the exploration fun out of it when blue tooth and wireless are both down...
