I want to create bootable recovery disks and so far Ive tried Acronis and Shadowprotect, and they dont do what I want. The both use proprietary formats for full disk imaging which is fine for recovery while using XP/Vista, but I would like a backup program that actually creates bootable DVDs with an ISO image. Am I missing something that Acronis and Shadowprotect offer, or do I need another program to do this?

You can use Acronis and Bart PE together to make the kind of disc you want. Works everytime, but you still may need to have an image on the hard drive (or a separate one at least). I thought Acronis allowed you to 'burn' a copy of the Acronis restore onto any portable media though :(

It sure does!!! But it may not be bootable..... Not positive, as I save them(images) to backup partitions and usb hdd's. And to recover, you just use the acronis boot disk and tell it where the image is.......

If the resulting DVD is bootable and can be restored in a standalone situation, then why are you concerned with what format the image is in???

I know Ghost (and I believe Acronis) will allow you to create a standalone bootable DVD with the image on it. This allows you to start with a hard drive with no OS on it at all, boot from the DVD and restore the hard drive to a usable state.

Isn't that what you are trying to accomplish, or am I missing some other point?

I am also trying to create bootable recovery discs. Can someone please tell me where I can find out how to do this with Norton Ghost. I have done it with Acronis, but it's not exactly what I'm trying to do. I know eMachines sometimes uses bootable recovery discs using Norton Ghost. I'm just not exactly sure how to do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
