Hello!
I'll be on a long intercontinental flight next week and was wondering what's more battery conserving. Watching a DVD from the DVD-Drive or ripping the DVD and then watching it off the harddrive. Anyone got experiences here?
I would guess running off the harddrive uses less battery but in some article on Tomshardware I read some time ago, they mentioned that there was no difference in battery life either way.

Using the optical drive always seems to make battery drain more quickly though I haven't sat down and taken measurements. Could test it out before you leave.

More power to turn the optical than the HDD, though the difference is minor. The biggest advantage to useing the HDD would be if your computer supported a flexible bay, so you could use a second battery. You might also consider picking up the APC universal battery for more juice.

Yeup using the optical drive uses up more juice.
Don't they have jacks in the planes?
I don't really travel so I've never had a chance to check.
Cheers,
Mike
