Just got my Inspiron 9400/e1705 yesterday, and have been trying to install games on it.

Since most of the games come on multiple Game CDs you have to put in the CDs as and when required and this is where exactly it just freezes ! First CD installs fine and whenever I pop in the next CD, it just hangs.

This happened with every game i tried to install yesterday. However i did not face this problem when i installed farcry from a DVD.

    Help please ?

Maybe you can make images of those CD's (wtih Nero for example),which will be on your hard drive. Then use Deamon Tools to mount all of them and when the installation requires a new CD, just give it the drive letter of the mounted image.

    Hey Vassil,
Thanks a lot. But I don't think that it's a DVD ROM Drive Issue. Infact when i tried to install ITunes and Winamp Yesterday, the setup froze up at the last moment.
No idea what's goin on with my lappy ?

Hm, check your computer for spyware and junk software from Dell. However, you've got a monstrously powerful laptop so this should not be the problem. Why don't you try disabling your anti-virus and/or firewall (I suggest you disconnect from Internet first)?

    Hey Vassil,
After I've been reading about the lot of junk that dell ships with their laptop i had ordred a licensed version of XP Professional just to do a clean install but when i turned it on yesterday i was plesantly surprised to see that dell had given me a clean installation of XP.
No trial versions, no nagware, nothing ! Not an extra piece !
I guessed as much it has something to do with AVG and Spybot S&D which i installed later on. Will check tonight and let ya know.

    Thanks again
