Hey hey hey! I've had Vista for 2 months or something of that sort and I personally like it a lot. But now I'm developing my first problem with it! I've been searching forums but I just can't seem to find the answer to this. The networking component of Windows Vista just does not work. Plain and simple, it just randomly stopped working! I can still connect to the internet with my ethernet cable, but Vista will not recognize that I am on the internet.
When I hover my mouse over the network symbol with the red x a small dialog comes up saying
"Connection Status: Unknown
Server execution failed"
Then If I double click it nothing happens for 30-40 seconds then another box comes up asking if I want to connect to a network or go to network and sharing center. If I click either of those options, nothing happens for a minute. If I click the connect to a wireless network, it'll show up after a VERY long time and give me network lists. Then I connect to the network but I can't see any of the status because windows still has the red x on the network symbol. If I click Network and sharing center, just a white screen comes up and nothing loads inside of it and it locks up.
I just have no idea what I'm supposed to do and I really don't wanna use recovery. Any ideas?

My first thought was that there is a 3rd party app controlling your connections. I know my IBM came that way and my wife's Acer was also like that until I un-installed the 3rd party crap and turned it back over to windows.
Your statement about the N&S center locking up makes me think that you might have corruption there or you might have a bug that has taken up residence on your pc and has locked those services out. Do you do regularly scans for virus's, malware, trojans? Something along those lines could cause this also. -

I am having the exact same problem
Please let me know if you find a solution -
Me to on an HP tx1000 tablet with the Broadcom Wireless LAN built in.
The symptoms are: I walk up to it after not using it for 30 minutes to 2 hours. There is no internet activity in Firefox, IE7, Outlook. Mouse hover or right click on the network activity icon in the tray produces no response. Clicking Network and Sharing Center produces a partial Explorer GUI with no title and no content, just the window. Shutting down the WLAN adapter doesn't help. NETSH commands don't help and eventually it gets hung. All I can do is reboot when it happens. Can't seem to pin it down yet as to what causes this. NOthing in the logs gives any clue. Tablet won't shut down either when this happens, stays in shutting down state and I have to push the power button to kill it. Recently updated BIOS and checked to ensure driver for WLAN is current. All to no avail. Happens with or without firewall up. No scans find anything. All MS SW up to date.
This is yet another in numerous disappointing experience with this tablet PC and with Vista in general. I have three pages of odd ball experiences so far that have consumed about 15 hours of time troubleshooting. Its a case of the technology becoming more time consuming to run it than the benefit it brings. Very sad.
