    Hi,
I have a problem with my removable drives and also my DVD burner.
My device manager says that these drives are working properly but when I go into my computer there is a big red prohibition sign on these drives
When I insert a cd in the DVD burner it says that the use of this drive is prohibited by the admin. I am the admin on my pc.
Can anyone please help me with this problem?

    thanks in advance.

wow...that notebook looks sweet, I bet it's an HP! :)

Anyhow, have u checked the "Event Logs"?

Is the computer fully updated, via "Windows Updates"?

If u haven't done this, try it..in Device Manager, right click on the drive and disable it. It will ask u if ur sure or w/e, just click yes. Re-enable it and see if that fixes the issue.

    1) Have you checked to see how many, and what type, of user accounts your machine actually has?

    2) Have you been setting customized access permissions on anything recently?

Basically, it sounds as if either (i) someone hacked you and activated a new user account with admin privileges, and deleted the access permissions for the other accounts with administrative privileges, or (ii) you accidentally deleted your own administrative access privileges.

There is only 1 account that is named user.
And I haven't been playing around with any privileges.
And about someone hacking this pc sounds about right.
But is there anything I can do before I do a fresh install?

If you right-click the drive and click Properties... is there a Security tab? If so, check the permissions.

No there is no permissions tab.
