windows firewall/defender....
-
nah, not that... i never had issues with them before, and i just turned tham off to test.
-

-
well, now it is not lagging... but disconnection/connecting.... weaird//
-
Do you have this issue when using IE7?
-

-
Have you tried the Firefox Preloader?
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffpreloader/ -
Re-install again!
-
hah, funny thing. i always think how great it is gona be after i do that, and then i have probs... xD
-
Same here, you know what is the real "clean install"? To install the OS on a brand new HDD
-
i was thinking of doing a dban.... but i had another partition that i have all my files on, so i diddnt want that to effect it... i kinda want another HDD, one for OS, on for files... so id get like a 120gb for os, then have all 400GB to files.... but that ain't happeneing...
-
It's the wireless card from what it sounds like. Hopefully you got the AHCI driver as you were installing Vista, and then found the right driver for your wireless card. That or it's a garbage one.
-
well, the card used to work fine, and i have the drivers. I got all the drivers to my knowlege. waht is the AHCI? i don't recal seeing that... ever (ever in my installing in my life)
-
ok... the net is ok now.
But, how the heck do you stop the disk thrashing? i turned indexing off, and it is still thrashing like there is no tomorrow -
download filemon from:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896642.aspx
and see what's writing to your disk -
yay, and how installing SP! gives me a 0x80070032 error... and when i google it it is a system restore error... kinda weird.... cant find a fix
EDIT: now my net is acting up again... darn it!
idk... who votes i go back to xp? im gettin really pissed. i never had this many probs with vista before... -
I vote fresh install of Vista.
-
but this is a fresh install... lol
-
I vote clean install.
Amen. -

Even with indexing off, a fresh vista install needs time to "cure" so to speak, the disk thrashing should stop after a day or two of normal use.
-
1. Download the SP1 offline installer, if you don't have it.
2. Go to the manufacturers website and download the LATEST drivers. Some manufacturers place all drivers for a particular model together. This means there may be device drivers for several vid cards and/or wireless cards together. Be sure to download the drivers for the exact hardware you have.
3. Format the partition.
4. Re-install Vista
5. Install Device Drivers
6. Reboot.
7. Install SP1
8. Reboot.
9. Run Windows Update. Be careful it doesn't offer you an older device driver.
10. Reboot.
11. Install Firefox. Be patient if the software (not the connection) is laggy, until Vista settles down in 3 or 4 hours. Just leave the computer on. No need to turn off indexing. -
I agree with the above posting, except I'd recommend installing SP1 first and then the device drivers. (It probably won't matter though.)
SP1 completely stopped the disk thrashing for me.
You can get the offline (standalone) SP1 installer here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...6D-5EBB-413B-89C9-CB3D06D12674&displaylang=en -
Then install firefox .. or try IE , see if there's a difference in speed ..
Hope this help -
The issue with installing SP1 before the drivers is that SP1 has issues with older drivers. This issue can cause an upgrade failure, or an endless reboot cycle. Installing the LATEST drivers first prevents both these possibilities.
I also forgot a very important step:
12. Use drive imaging software to create an image of your computer on an external HD or burn to DVD so you don't have to go through this again!
Well, i just re installed vista, and now i have issues...
