Recently bought a western digital my book world edition (500gb) as a back up hard drive for my two laptops. both laptops are on vista 64bit. It seems when i intal the software that is provided on the CD's to back up and find the hard drive on the network its not compatibable with windows vista 64bit. Any advice on how to work around this problem??

Probably not a precise response to your query, but have you tried using a free backup / sync software? There are lots of them around (check in the free software' sticky thread). I have been using SyncBack for example, and its been great. And yes, I have a WD too as a backup hdd. I didn't bother using the software that came with the CD.
