I know of objectdock and rocketdock, but what are some other good programs for a dock?

Those are the only two I know about.

I've tried both of them and ended up sticking with ObjectDock.

There are some others like RK Launcher and MyDock but I'm using the free version of objectdock.

I find that having a half dozen custom toolbars with autohide turned on works just fine for me

What would it look like if you had different programs running? Would it bunch up on you?

You could try Bart Simpson's newly released Circle Dock.

The running programs do, yes, but I rarely have more than 3 or 4 programs running, and Outlook minimizes to the system tray when explicitly minimized.

lol, that's why I use Objectdock. Quick launch crowds out program tabs.

LOL. That is why I do not use quick launch either! I have that disabled. I have 6 custom toolbars.

I downloaded and installed RocketDock tonight. Kind of fun. I have also downloaded ObjectDock, but not installed it yet. It really looks like ObjectDockPlus has more function, but there does not appear to be a trial of that?

I looked for one and I couldn't find one either. I mean there's ObjectDock free, but it doesn't have the same feature set, so you can't really the Plus features.

On the other hand... it's only $20, so your potential loss is relatively limited.

The Plus version of ObjectDock looks pretty good and could remove the need for you to use the start menu if you wanted to.

I just put my most used programs into ObjectDock at the top of the screen, as well as my computer and common folders like My Docs and My Music

Here is a port of my 6 custom toolbars into RocketDock. I have both RocketDock and the System Task Bar / System Tray in AutoHide mode.

I decided not to try out ObjectDock. The website pissed me off too much. It apparently has some fairly extensive scripting, and will not work at all without giving it permission in NoScript and then it shows it is downloading (something, but will not say what) just trying to display the pages and locks up Firefox. So I am simply just not going to go there.

Since I already did have it downloaded, I installed it. Tried it. Deinstalled it. I like RocketDock better.

I can't remember why, but I liked Objectdock better than Rocketdock. I'll reinstall Rocketdock to see how it functions. I know one thing Rocketdock has over Objectdock is the animation when opening and minimizing programs from the dock. Much like how it is on Mac OS. Objectdock doens't have that feature :(

I have been having a bit of fun with RocketDock, already churning out a few skins. Looks to be a keeper.

OK, I am a flip-flopper. I now have ObjectDock installed and have uninstalled RocketDock.

ObjectDock simply allows more control over the configuration.

I also moved the skins I have created to my own website.

Would you mind mentioning a few of the configuration options that OD has that RD does not? I'm using RD, but hear folks rave about OD. With a 2 gig processor and 2 G of RAM, I doubt that CPU/memory issues would affect me. I'm just wondering what specific functions the free version of OD has that recommend it that highly over RD. Thanks!

Well, for one, I was unable to adjust the position of the icon (XY axis) on Tiled skins in RocketDock, but it works just fine in ObjectDock.

Although, I believe I have found a bug in ObjectDock (at least under Vista, cannot say about XP).

If the box to Load ObjectDock at Startup is checked there are two instances of ObjectDock running after a reboot or restart. This is verifiable via TaskMgr.

If that box is not checked there are none.

If that box is not checked, but a shortcut is manually placed into the user's StartUp folder, there is only one running.

It appears that checking that box causes an shortcut to be created in the user's StartUp folder and automatically starts ObjectDock. Unchecking the box also removes the entry in the user's StartUp folder.

Therefore, the work-around is to not check the box, but manually place the shortcut into your StartUp folder.

That's not the only thing I've found.

While ObjectDock does seem to have more eye candy knobs to tweak, it is really buggy, crappy code. Especially when compared to RocketDock, which is tight, clean code.
