OK, I finally got Windows ME (Upgrade Copy) installed on Virtual PC 07! I was wondering if someone knew where I can find some programs to run in a 98 environment. I tried to install Chrome to no success so I would have something other to use besides the forsaken IE6, but it didn't work. I might need to find a version of Netscape at the rate.

Just looking for some gimmick programs, only run in 3.11/95/98/ME or useful ones, like say a better browser. Maybe I can find a copy of Mosaic just for kicks :p

as a relatively recent 98/ME convert-(literally-I upgraded my old HP from Win 98SE to XP just before I got my laptop 2 years ago :p) I may be able to help.

Yes, admittedly, even then it was a bit of a struggle to find good, updated, software that runs in 98 or ME, but here are a few that I used.

Firefox 2-get it from oldversion.com. Works like a charm.

OpenOffice.org-You might need to find an older version though-also check oldversion.com.

Picasa for photo organization-*You'll need to use version 1 though, 2 doesn't support Win 9X/ME (again, oldversion.com-sense a pattern ;))

Favorite IM client (I can't quite remember if I was able to get Trillian working in 98 or not...Hmm)

I would suggest antivirus, firewall, etc. But since this is virtualized...not sure if it's needed much.

Hmm, I can't think of much else, esp. since this is virtualized and you can just switch back into Vista at any time :p

I'll try and rack my brain some more, LOL

Thanks, you should see some of the reactions I got on another forum I posted this question. I love the Vista w/WinME VM jokes :D

Firefox 2, sounds like a good plan. I had family that also switched over in the last 2-4 years ago, but it seemed like you could still find programs that supported older OS. And whats the deal with Chrome, suppose to work on all OSes, my ***!

*EDIT* Firefox 2.0.0.17 worked like a charm, to bad FF3 doesn't work. I really wanted Chrome. I got a copy of Office '97 waiting at home.

Windows 00' is a good program to install on windows ME :p

nah, depends what you're looking to do. Seems like you've covered most of the bases (Browsing and Word processing).

Not sure what you could do for firewalls and AV though.
