    Hi Guys,

I am attaching a screenshot of files that are located in my OS drive (C:/) root. Any idea what these files are? I have scanned them for viruses, and they all have "Delete Me" in the title. I haven't seen this in other windows installations before. Any ideas what this is?

You should post the full directory as well to help determine what/where they are from.

    Did you upgrade from XP?

It looks like backup DLL files created by installation of Vista.

Are they listed separately or in a folder?

    Hi Guys,

Thanks for the quick reply. I basically did a clean install of Vista Ultimate on a new hard drive that I recieved.

These files are located in the C:\ folder (i.e. in the root of the C drive)

I tried to remove the SP1 installation files, but these files are still present. Please let me know if you require any other information.

    Thanks in advance!

I don't think that you need them. You can check the file names after the $$DeleteMe and see if you have them in Vista.

More than likely, they are duplicates for updated files.

I had files of that same name on a Dell Inspiron 1521 that I got for my wife. I removed them with no harm to the system. Been 6 months or so since I did it

The file says DeleteMe. They're probably leftover from some installer or other, possibly some crapware Dell installs along with the OS. Just nuke them, they are most definitely not needed for system operation. Just make sure you don't get too overzealous and accidentally delete a file that doesn't have that DeleteMe in it.
