After viewing the desktop thread, im amazed how clean some of the desktops look. What programs do you guys use to achieve that bare look? I know some are mods , some themes, etc. I've also seen large texts (links?) with programs acronyms. What are these?
What are some programs or tricks that you guys use to achieve that sleek look?

some use docks, like StarDock or RocketDock, to achieve the clean look. as for the "large texts with program acronyms", i think you were seeing links to programs from Adobe's Creative Suite, such as Photoshop or Dreamweaver. their link symbols are like that.

To the OP: I think you'd be better served by perusing and posing questions here:

It's where we all share information and take suggestions. -
tune-up utilities is good, you can mod the start menu, login screen, and loading screen.

Common sense - don't let novelty - or sloth - create a messy desktop! If you haven't accessed something on the desktop in a month, it's time to archive it somewhere and remove the desktop icon.

I use objectdock and besides that have nothing on my desktop

AKAJohnDoe Mime with Tourette's
My desktop background is a black jpg 1280x800
I have no icons on the desktop
I have no items pinned to the Start Menu
I keep no history on the Start Menu
I customized my Start Menu to have only 3 main entries under All Programs: Apps; Microsoft; StartUp (and there is nothing under StartUp)
I autohide the taskbar
I have one custom toolbar on the taskbar
I keep the number of items in the System Tray to a minimum
Minimalist -
I just really use the startmenu for most of my software - Else, I just keep some out of habit (Network) - and a few commonly used programs.
Its really organization and willingness to use the start menu -
This is almost identical to my setup.
What are you essential desktop (lookwise) progs?
