Is it a big improvement from IE6. Does it compare favorably with firefox, Opera, etc.. Any bugs in the initial version? I am perfectly happy with IE6 for my limited use, but am willing to give it a try, to boldly go foward. Thanx.

From my experiences, it is leagues better than IE6, and almost on par with Firefox. The difference is actually much more noticeable in the Vista edition of IE7, and IE7 in XP looks kinda wierd to be honest. But as far as security, it is much closer to Firefox and Opera. Still... it is IE. Right now, I stick with Firefox unless I'm in Vista, in which case I go with IE7 simply because the UI is more streamilined to fit in with Vista than Firefox.

IE7 has been excellent for me so far. Not only is it a very user friendly browser, but it also supports the latest CSS even better than Firefox in my opinion.
I can make amazing (or weird, depends on your taste) looking webpages using CSS which would not have worked in IE6 at all, but work perfectly in IE7. -
Overall, I'm much happier to use IE7 than IE6... but I just do not like the new UI. It's probably just me but it's just too much of a jump compared with every other program I use. Other than that... and the fact that Firefox has the extensibility offered through extensions, it's not bad. If I were picking a browser for the first time, my picks would look something like this:
Firefox 2
Opera
IE7

I prefer Firefox because I have the Web Development extension which is great for web development. I expect IE7 to one day release it but I am still wary of the whole ActiveX architecture and thus will only use it if I have to.

Yea, same here, it looks good and all, but with Firefox you can get thousands of awesome themes and very useful extensions which are easy to install or uninstall.

like it so far

Right now I'm using Firefox to type this, but I juggle around Firefox 1.5 and IE7. I think Internet Explorer has caught up pretty much to Firefox, with the addition of tabs, and more customizations. Kudos to Microsoft for that. But for the main part, I'm sticking to Firefox.

Who in God's name would still and ever want to use exploder, whatever number Microsoft adds to its name now? Ever since I first installed Firefox several years ago, I ran exploder maybe three times in total...

IE7 is about on par with FF 1.5. It still doesn't provide quite the flexibility, though. However, I'm using the FF 2.0 beta and it's quite spectacular. Aside from a couple extensions I've used that aren't compatible yet (though I've found alternatives that pretty much do what I need) this new FF is fast and stable. I rarely use IE, only when I absolutely can't do something with another browser.

I agree with notebook ftw. IE 7 is more a difference in Vista when it comes to the design/feel and speed.
IE 7 in XP is nice, I personally can't use a non-tab browser anymore. So going back to IE 6 is a big no-no -
I like it. Looks OK, works well. But I am also using FF and I like it.
Cheers,

The only thing that I liked is the smooth display of the text/pixels not like Firefox that uses the normal display.
-
I still have to use IE7 sometimes, because some websites STILL don't work under Firefox (grumble grumble).

Does anyone has any idea why FF uses that much of memory. That's the only part I dislike about FF.
But still I'm using it coz it's great when u customize it with the extensions u want.
What are your experiences with IE7?
