We all know that Vista has gotten a lot of bad rep since its introduction, but whats the one thing you hate about it the most?
-
-
The one thing that really bugs me in Vista is occasional issues with my 8800GTX and Vista x64. Other than that, I don't mind anything about it at all.
-
Its too freakin big. The OS its self takes 15gigs
-
Some of which you can easily shave down by doing a little research.
I'm quite angry that Vista is currently preventing me from installing an application that competes with Media Center. I've done everything in my power to get around it...this is the first time I've seen this happen to me.
If this pattern continues, XP here I come (again)! -
Hey Greg, just out of curiosity that wouldnt be MediaPortal would it?
-
What I hate most about Vista is an issue I occasionally have with wireless networks. It won't connect to certain networks unless I try reconnecting multiple times. XP and Linux don't have the same issue. With my home network, it wouldn't connect unless I let it sit for 10-20 minutes, or reset the router. This issue is temperamental and only happens occasionally, at random.
-
It is complicated!
MS added a ton of new features. Most average computer users don't even know about them.
I don't mind that it takes up a 'lot of Ram or Hdd space btw. -
I'm running MediaPortal on Vista x64 with no issues.
-
What I hate most about Vista? The people who constantly complain about it.
-
Overclocking software doesn't run well in Vista. SM Bus figures get screwed up.
Though I like Vista.
-
^^^ so far been play with vista for about a month and its not as bad as ppl say it is... i mean i havent had any issue its fine in my book
-
i hate that vista is a resource hog. can you run vista on 512 mb ram? hell no!
-
I have been using Vista Ultimate on a Dell laptop since January and I like it much better than XP. No major complaints.
-
Cool. Glad to hear it, as I'm about to setup a HT machine and was going to use MediaPortal in lieu of WMC.
-
I should clarify that I don't use the TV Server part of it. I just use it as a front end for accessing and streaming my server-based video. But it installs and configures without a hitch on Vista, so I have no reason to think the TV part would be an issue.
-
Cool. Thats exactly the way im gonna set mine up. I dont even have a TV card in that machine. Thanks for the info.
-
What do I dislike most about Vista? Networking support, as it was flakey in release, and is the same after SP1.
Sometimes I forced to reboot just to reinitialize my network connection, especially when switching from LAN to WLAN (or vice versa). XP never had a problem with this.
Other than that and some difficulties with 2 old games, it is fine. I use Vista because it is there, not because I think it is more exciting & feature-packed than XP..... -
I really can't stand Vista UAC--I disable it within 10 seconds of the first time I touch any Vista machine.
The biggest thing though isn't Microsoft's fault. I'm extermely annoyed with major third-partys' support of drivers for Vista (like HP). -
It's not something I hate, but I do find annoying... I like my window icons to show up in list view, but sometimes they get reset to detail, large, etc.
-
The one thing that made me switch back to XP from Vista was that Vista would not sync with my Windows Mobile Phone! Really this is unacceptable, two Microsoft products not being able to sync data, even apple got this right on the first try on the iPhone.
Everything works on XP. -
- Lack of customization options. A lot of things can be turned on or off, but not (easily) tweaked or fine-tuned. Examples: transparency, startup sound, UAC, Superfetch.
- As others have said, Vista's a bit of a resource hog. -
Vista is only a resource hog if you're trying to run it on an old junky pc.
Really, 4 gigs is standard now, any system with 2+ gigs of ram runs vista very smooth. Do you realize it's less then $100 for 4 gigs of ram?
So aparenty there's people out there willing to spend 200-300 on a new OS but aren't willing to spend 40-80 bucks on a ram upgrade to run vista...
Don't want to upgrade your ram? Then why did you upgrade your OS? Really, that's the supidest thing I've heard in a long time. You can't expect to run a new OS on an old system. Computer technology doesn't work that way.
I'd have to agree that people complaining about vista are the only things I hate. Been running vista heavily for 6 months now, and with zero errrors or issues. -
UAC and I have problems of connecting to wireless network..
-
UAC was poorly implemented, period. So I don't buy into the third party excuse. UAC comes on if you try and rename desktop icons, defrag the hard drive or just want to access the event log. Too many useless prompts could have been negated by simply adding an exception feature so as not to see the same alert over and over again for basic tasks.
-
UAC isn't poorly implemented at all. It just lacks the ability to customize it, just like a lot of other things in Vista.
And no, it doesn't actually come on when renaming desktop icons. Unless you lack permissions on the shortcut, I guess. -
That's poorly implemented in my book because it should have been in there from day 1 or with SP1.
-
Heh. I almost posted in the other thread (What do you LIKE about Vista) that I liked how much better it behaved with my WM6 Phone! I always had a beast of a time with ActiveSync, but WMDC works great for me.
Just goes to show that no two people's experiences will ever be the same I guess. -
I'm gonna have to go with UAC, I CAN'T STAND IT AAHHHHHHH!!
but once that's disabled, vista is fine -
Try running it on a notebook thats not 5 years old. Like others have said, how are you able to afford a $200 copy of Vista but are too cheap to upgrade to 2 GB ram?
...which also happens in XP all the time for me. It's a Windows thing, not Vista. -
I must be lucky. I've never experienced it in XP.
-
Me neither. I've also never had any stability issues with XP since the day it was released. It's always been a rock solid solid OS that has gotten even better with age. That's why I still use it.
-
Strange...I actually haven't paid attention to this lately in Vista so I'll have to look for it. But I know on my old notebook running XP as well as my work desktop, the folder views usually change back after a reboot and sometimes just randomly.
-
Well, if I would have seen this thread before I just tried to install my new printer unsuccessfully, I would have said 'nothing.' Now, that's the only thing that's annoying me about Vista.lol Seriously, I have any big complaints. I just wish I could get my printer installed.
I know exactly what you're talking about here. I hate how my folders automatically reset to something other than what I set, which is the list view. I also like them to be sorted according to 'Type,' but they seem to get unsorted arbitrarily. Sometimes I open my folders and everything is how I left it. Other times, I have to go through and reorganize everything all over again. -
What i hate about Vista is that it took too much time to become stable.
nearly 2 yrs of release & now it functions normally like XP. -
what phone do you have that doesn't sync. i know with my ppc6700 i had alot of problems, the phone wasnt even recognized. but i eventually found a fix if you need help pm me and i will send you the instructions i followed. apparently alot of people had the same problem with my phone.
-
At this point nothing at all. With tweaks and sp1 vista has turned into a nice OS to work with, and dare I say close to worth upgrading my work network to.
-
One things...that's hard. I'll give Microsoft the benefit of the doubt (purely for the sake of narrowing down the choices) that it's entirely nVIDIA's faults that I got very bad graphics artifacts in some Microsoft-made games (and no non-Microsoft games). Then I'll blame Intel entirely for the very loud CPU whine that mysteriously became near-silent when I switched to XP. And since I can use a BIOS password instead of a Windows password, I'll rule out the fact that Vista locked me out of my own computer. So I guess that leaves the fact that I had to reinstall Vista every 2 days to 6 weeks (varying) in order to get my favorite game to play. And I did try everything to get it to work before re-installing. Why reinstalling it fixed it temporarily I have no idea, but that's OK, because it runs fine on XP.
Haha, yeah, that's probably "most annoying". Though for me it was more that Vista always reset the details to "Ratings" and a few other things rather than "Type", "Name", "Date Modified", and "Size". The loss of Filmstrip was a definite negative though.
Well, if you view different folders a lot, it will happen after awhile on XP. The default number of folder views that XP saves is, I believe, 400. Once you browse a 401st folder, it replaces the saved settings for the one you viewed least recently with Folder 401. You can increase (or decrease if you really want to) this settings within the Explorer-->Customizations section of the TweakUI XP Powertoy. Not sure why a reboot would reset stuff though, unless this setting got set really low on your computer somehow.
Outside of that I haven't had that problem with XP. Windows 98 never seemed to remember to sort stuff alphabetically instead of antialphabetically for me though. -
I hate that Microsoft claims Vista will run well using older machines... It really requires a new notebook with 1GB or 2GB+ to go smoothly...
But when using a computer that's capable of it, it's pretty nice.
When I get my new notebook I'll probably give Vista a shot. -
While I like Vista in general, there's one irksome thing about it.-How it takes it's sweet time to open explorer windows like Control Panel. It seems like I have to wait for that green progress bar each time, very annoying.
-
Vista needs a SP2 just like XP needed SP2 badly.
-
Yeah, I think I would welcome SP2 with open arms, even though SP1 is working just fine for me. Other than a little hassle installing a new LaserJet printer, I have had no issues with Vista.
-
OK this is my list
Vista only Microsoft Millenium is worse!
1. Software compatability
2. USB function
3. Multitasking slower then Win 95!
4. Needed Ram ( 4 gb would not be enough for this memory hog)
5. Hard drive space (200gig enough?)
6. Video card ( is there a 10 out there?)
7. Sleep functions
I tried to live with Vista but I think its the biggest mistake I ever made switching, Microsoft had 13 years to get USB right and still these clowns cannot get it stable, USB has crashed my system 2 times today alone not to mention the greenbar of death! I cannot stand this OS anymore!
I wish I could sue microsoft for being money grubbing idiots!
Vista is not even good enough as a Beta IMHO
My system
PM 1.6 1gig ram 100gig HD Pen top convertable
Yes a little old but Microsoft said my computer would be fine, no its not, I have turned off the thumbnails and turned off most of the new flash for vista, its almost XP except I could have thumbnails on XP without problems it seems I get less with Vista! But I paid 200 Dollars for it! -
I'm curious about number 2 USB function in your list.
Same thing just happened to me the other day. Plugged in my mouse and then suddenly I get a blue screen.
Any other users have had this problem? -
I've never had any problems with USB in Vista at all. I suspect one of your drivers is causing problems, rather than some sort of generic USB problem.
No, but I suggest uninstalling your mouse driver and using the generic mouse driver built into Windows. It handles most mice just fine, and it's never bluescreened on me.
Also, be sure that SP1 is installed. Vista SP1 is 100% stable if you get rid of any funky third-party drivers. I tend to reboot mine about once a week or so, but that's voluntary... there are never any crashes. -
Thanks, I will try and see if there are any improvements, by the way I already have SP1 installed. The mouse is a Razer Deathadder, if that makes any difference.
I'll uninstall the mouse driver and see if it makes a difference thanks man
just an update: yeah the blue screen problem has disappeared when i uninstalled the driver of the Razer Deathadder. I just wont't be able to program the buttons on it, and adjust sensitivity on the fly..
Is there anyone using the Deathadder on Vista without experiencing any problems whatsoever? Anyway I can install or maybe update the driver to stop the dreaded blue screen? -
After all the hype about problems with Vista... I have no complaints against Microsoft itself, I do find it scandalous that 3rd Parties took their sweet time in releasing drivers etc. especially since they wont be getting the blame - you always hear Vista screwed up my mouse/Vista screwed up my GPu etc.
My only gripe was UAC, which is easily disabled...
I've taken a liking to Vista actually, specially for Windows Key + typing "Pho" pressing enter and have photoshop open up
Or that the quicklaunch bar now has shortcuts - Windows Key + 1 will open up the first icon etc.
-
No offense, but your problems sound like you deserve them. Negative points for you trying to use Vista on less than 2 gigs and on a old CPU... Also, you really can't blame Microsoft for all of the driver issues...
Anyway, for my part I haven't really had any issues with Vista period. Other than the fact, when I'm using to monitors sometimes Photoshop will open a document outside the PS environment (It can do that !??!)? Of course, that just maybe Photoshop going crazy, who knows. Also, I love that search field as well...it replaces Launchy for me. And Search 4.0 on XP is cool too, since its basically the same as the Vista search bar. -
1. not every applications work 100% fine on this OS
2. it is bloody too slow for lower CPU's
3. too long startup
4. not many things changed from XP -
Yeah, I'm using the Deathadder without any problems. Plugged in the mouse, installed Razer driver and it works like a charm. Works with or without the Razer driver, but it's nice to be able to switch DPI on the fly for games.
-
I'm using Windows Vista Ultimate x86-64, and I've yet to come across a single software or a game that won't work with Vista, or a single hardware that doesn't have a driver. I've used the x86 Version of Windows Vista Home Premium as well.
Buy new hardware, or go back to the 50s.
No, there's not. And I have an Anti-Virus, an Anti-Spyware, and all the normal Windows Vista shebangs like sidebar etc on.
Unless you want a Unicorn to come out of your screen, there have been a LOT of changes.
The only thing I hate about Windows Vista is that they allowed n00bs to use it, and then bad mouth it.
What do you hate most about Vista?
