I use Webshots on my desktop, but I am not sure how it will look when I get my laptop. The images are only 800x600 but the native res is 1900x1200. I assume the pictures would look pretty crappy. Anyone have any suggestions for ways to get nice looking backgrounds?

Actually someone else turned me on to this site that has a lot of high quality pictures to use for backgrounds. And they come in a wide variety of resolutions.

I use my own shots. I only know of one monitor with resolution that exceeds my camera, and IIRC it costs ~$8k.

Other than the odd bit of googling, the bulk of mine are from deviantART and gamewallpapers.com.

friend of mine has some of mine in her wallpapers section on Flickr

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/arjones/sets/1821490/

I can post some higher-res versions to my website, though since those are getting up toward printable resolutions I'd watermark the corners.

I use photos that I take of scenery on my bike road trips using a Canon S70 (7mp). It makes excellant wallpaper shots.

Strikeback, those are some great shots. I'm an avid photographer myself. I shoot with a Canon digital rebel xt. Really still a novice, but having a blast learning. Been doing a lot of reading and experimenting.

Cool thread guys, thanks for the help. It's so hard to find good wallpapers to fit my resolution. I do have a tendancy to make random artwork for myself.

I can't speak for everyone, but if I see a picture I like or if I shoot one, IrfanView is what I use to crop, shrink, expand or mount that image.

Irfanview is good for quick work on images. I mostly shoot RAW format, which Irfanview can display but not modify.

Winterymix: Thnaks :) great camera, have fun learning with it.
