Was this feature scrapped, because it was supposed to ship with Vista but got taken out by delays. WinFS was supposed to be a great file sytem better and faster than NTFS. Its been a while since Vista shipped will it be part of SP2 on Vista or since Microsoft has given up on Vista will it be part of Windows 7?

Apparently, it's still poking along at Microsoft, but with no plans on releasing it anytime soon, at least according to this Wikipedia article.

You can actually download it as a beta from technet, but it seems to have morphed into an overlay technology as opposed to a true file system

It seems like it is shelved until another day. I was hoping to see it in Win 7, but I guess that won't be happening.

WinFS as a technology was dropped or put on hold... but most of the main end-user features it was going to offer are available in Vista, through file tagging, metadata browsing/editing and Windows Search.
