I got it on my notebook and am wondering whether or not I should completely uninstall SQL from it. Seems like a bunch of mumbo-jumbo that I won't ever need in this lifetime of mine.

I tried to comprehend what was being said on Wikipedia but had no luck. Someone put it in laymen terms for me.

Laymen's term: A database for storing information such as names, SSN, address, phone numbers, etc., so you can retrieve it later.

Example, this forum runs a database server to store user information.

So since I don't store such things, it is okay/safe for me to uninstall?

I'm not sure why you even have it installed on your computer if you don't even know what it is. Are you sure this is the full Microsoft SQL Database program?

This is what I have :

    SQL Server Configuration Manager
SQL Server Error and Usage Reporting
    SQL Server Surface Area configuration

This is what I'm seeing in my start menu.

And this is whats in my uninstall folder:

    Edit.

Btw, it came preinstalled on my notebook.

That is SQL server utilities and is in general useless unless you have SQL server installed. I doubt there is any notebook that would have SQL server pre-installed as that is not useful except for developers. There is a free SQL server version(SQL server desktop edition or something like that) but very few apps would use it.

If your notebook came with a lot of bloatware, it's easier to just and start over

Some software programs use SQL Server to host their databases. You may have had a trial accounting software installed, or something along those lines. Also, Microsoft Office Outlook Business Contact Manager uses SQL server to store info.

If you want to remove the trial-ware anyway, I'd see no harm in removing the SQL utilities listed as well.

That's the first thing that came into my mind, the Phonebook program or business contact managerr and such. I'd say look under services to see the dependency first before uninstalling it. Assuming that Vista still has the services thing as in XP.
