What happened to my screen? Is this a driver or a hardware issue?

I normally use my m1710 (specs in my sig) with a 22" wide screen attached. However, when I disable the external LCD, after a minute or two I get hundreds of thin vertical stripes down my laptop screen. If I reset the resolution, they disappear but eventually come back.

Does this sound like a driver/OS issue or does it sound like a hardware issue? Any ideas on how to fix this?

Again, there are no problems when I have the external screen hooked up on either the external LCD or the notebook's LCD. I only have problems when the external is removed.

If they disappear, it usually means a software problem. Try different drivers, if it still happens, then have the screen swapped out.
