Sometimes when I open movies in WMP, it lags before it starts playing. I have Vista codec package installed, but some say CCCP is better. Which one is faster, and has better playback quality?? I can take little lag if it improves the visual appeal and quality of the video..
-
I use klite mega codec pack.
I'm on xp now but I think codecs are cross platform. -
I have FFDShow ... is one the best codecs out there
-
K-Lite Codec Pack. Use Media Player Classic. I like GOMPlayer but it always incorrectly displays srt subtitles.
-
K-Lite Mega Codec Pack FTW.
Plays any video, any RM file, any quicktime file, 3gp,aac, etc -
What are actually the differences between K-Lite Codec Pack and K-Lite Mega Codec Pack?
-
none????? just different names????
cheers ... -
Mega Codec Pack has integrated codec for Real Media
, so you don't need Real Media Alternative (I won't mention bloated Real One).
-
learned something new today
cheers ... -
K-Lite Codec Pack comes in 4 versions: Basic, Standard, Full, and Mega.
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm
Mega is basically Full + Real Alternative.
Personally I just use Standard and installed Real Alternative separately. For most people, the Standard is enough to watch pretty much everything. Full is good for people who want to encode their own videos. -
K-Lite Mega Codec Pack or VLC

You could also (but I am not recommending it (although I am
))torrent VISTACODECPACK which I hear is good. you can do a google search for it. Easy to find.

Torrents are not illegal or bad, as long as its a legal file. I am pretty sure a codec pack would be a free file and just using a torrent file for distribution.

The_Observer 9262 is the best:)
I use CCCP.
-
I'm for getting the K-Lite Mega codec pack as well. I discovered this codec pack myself not too long ago and it is fantastic!
-
CCCP trumps all. Though I have updated FFDShow to the latest version.
-
I stick to two things: FFDShow and the Haali Media Splitter. I haven't come across any media that I haven't been able to play.
-
CCCP for sure, it's the fastest and the most efficient. If you're looking to play high def stuff, either get Mplayer or buy CoreAVC.
-
I use ffdshow , ace mega codec pack and the cccp codec pack.
-
CCCP!!!

Having too many codec/filter installed is not good. Can lead to conflicts. Best thing to do is uninstall everything. Then install CCCP. Then you can update the FFdshow that comes with CCCP to the Latest ones. Then add extra codecs/whatever as you need them, say for encoding. Even then, you can get far with the VFW part of ffdshow.
-
I only use FFDShow. Plays all my media with no lag in WMP11. I don't trust in CodecPacks...
An Interesting reading: "Codec Packs" are evil, don't install them!! -
CodecPacks ARE evil.
-
Disagree.

He was kidding. It's sarcasm.

Actually I'm not. But CCCP is not a codec pack. It's FFdshow, Haalis media splitter, VSFilter, WMV9VCM, Gabest's MPV (MPEG2) Decoder, CoreWavPack, Gabest's FLV Splitter, Media Player Classic and Zoomplayer in one installer.
These are all applications (especially MPC, FFDshow and Haalis) that you wanna install anyways. But there isn't even ONE codec in there.

Combined Community Codec Pack is a very misleading name then.
-
Yes it is. It's for the people who think codec packs are good. And if they didn't use codec in the name, it wouldn't be CCCP (for you younger people, wiki it).
-
Pardon my ignorance, but is it true that some/certain codec packs install unwanted spyware and other files onto your system?
-
Download them from a good source, like free-codecs, doom9, codecguide, etc. and you'll be safe.
-
^^^Thanks Andy.
-
klite imo best out there
-
CCCP /w CoreAVC PRO. Efficient enough to play HD @ half CPU.
-
CCCP and K-Lite Mega Codec Pack.
-
Why on earth would you install both? They contain virtually the same components.
CCCP will play pretty much anything you throw at it. -
Here is the combo , I use on all my systems
FFDShow + Real Time Alt + QuickTIme Alt -
I went to the site to get the K Lite Codec pack and I saw a bunch of the different types. I just went ahead and downloaded the FULL version, but before I run the .exe, I was wondering what is the difference between the different versions. Will the version I downloaded come with bloatware, spyware, etc.? I'm just extra cautious about this kind of stuff. I really wish I didn't even have to install extra codecs.
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_lite_codec_pack.htm -
Just use KM Player, no additional codecs needed.
-
the full has more codec's than the regular one, and the mega has more than the full. i recc the full at least.
-
Mc, so I take it this plays AVI, Divx, MPeg and all that?
By the way, what about VLC player?
I hear you. Thanks. -
Hi THAANSA3,
Does VLC Player support Windows Vista 64 bit?
I only see the file: vlc-0.9.8a-win32.exe . I am afraid it doesn't support Windows 64 bit.
Thanks -
.Vista 64 supports 32-bit apps.
-
I've used VLC on my desktop (running Vista 64-bit) and it runs fine. As THAANSA says, the operating system supports running 32-bit applications.
-
Actually, Andy said it so he gets credit. I would have said the same thing if he didn't beat me to it, though.lol
-
Of course it does. KM Player is way better than VLC. I've used both. I know. My video files in VLC are so laggy and when I fast forward it is not smooth, it's jerky and takes a few seconds to start playing. Especially the new versions of VLC, seems much more bloated. KM Player is light on resources and plays everything I throw at it.
-
I hear you. Thanks.
What is good codec pack for vista??
