Take advantage of more than 3.5 gigs of ram, and you can use 64 bit apps to their full potential, like adobe cs4, autocads, rendering programs stuff like that are where its really going to pay off.

Sometimes 32bit instructions double up and run twice as fast thus sometimes you get up to 2x more performance.

64 bit OS's have really matured and enjoy a great deal of third party support.

Beware of 64 bit browsers though if you like to have flash enabled for websites.

Adobe does not make a 64 bit compatible version of flash.

If that's all you're waiting for, I'd suggest making the move now - I've been using the 64-bit _Vista Home Premium for 3 weeks now (got a new system, finally, that had it preinstalled), and after a few hunting trips trying to find where some of the old functionality got moved, I have to say that XP is beginning to look a lot more threadbare than it did before I got the new system (of course, the new hardware alone might account for some of my perception, since the old system was 6 y.o. and was weak even when it was brand-new).

Hmm, six years without any security support; sounds like a plan to me.
