What is the best and inexpensive CD/DVD burning software out there?

I have Sonic MyDVD LE in my laptop which works well except for certain files that I don't have codecs for, like .avi, etc. However, it's a trial software and has limitation.

Can anyone suggest a replacement, or shoul I buy the MyDVD plus?

You can get them all for free, if you know what to do :/
But, if you're really that scared, then I suggest using the software
that came preinstalled in your computer. Seems Roxio is pretty decent.

Can you elaborate on how you can get the software for free? The software preinstalled (MyDVD LE) is great, but some of the features that I want to use (customizing a dvd menu) are only available on the full version (MyDVD Plus) .

He's talking about warez, which is illegal.

Check your local papers. A lot of the big box retail stores have deals with rebates where you can get programs like Nero 7 Ultra edition for $50 or less. Otherwise, you can get copies of Nero 6 OEM for cheap if there's a mom-and-pop computer store near you.

The only free CD burning program i know of is this, dont know if it will do what you want it to though. I suggest getting a OEM copy of Nero 6, it really isnt that expensive and with CD/DVD burning software it really is a buy once and never again issue.

_radditz_, thanks for that link. Is it good, i.e. accurate and fairly fast?

I just need a CD+DVD data burner and also video DVD burner (as if in backup DVDs that I own [ ;) ] to DVD-R/RW etc)

Don't need a CD solution. EAC for that. Anyone else know of other freeware solutions?

What about this a) and this b) ?
